Try sanitizing it with isopropyl alcohol, and wash it with soap and water ever time you shower. I had the same issue as well, and this worked for me.

You can switch off 'Tones' in the System menu, but this is an integral setting for all tones. Switch off tones at navigation hints alone is not possible.
