Two things on software version 22.35 (battery drain)

So I have updated my Tactix 8 to 22.35 and found the following two things:

1. The battery is draining faster. In the battery analysis widget it always shows orange medium usage even if I'm doing nothing. The icons of consumption items are always bluetooth, heartrate and sometimes backlight. But these are the way I use my watch and everything was fine before 22.35.

2. The DIveview maps once installed on tactix 8, will create an empty map layer in the map layer setting; if I touch the switch on that empty-name layer it will break the map system and other maps will no longer be correctly indicated whether it's on or off by the switchs.

  • Yeah I allowed device logging as well and have heard nothing back. There has to be a widespread problem beyond a faulty battery with all of us having the same issue.   Part of the perks of having a Garmin is the battery life.  For a $1,300 watch,  we should absolutely be getting some better communication.

  • Same issue. Charged it to 100%  this morning and after 7 hrs of usual operation the battery was down to 80%!!! That being said before the update it would have been like 96%.

  • Thank you all for responding to our emails and for allowing the device logging. At this point, our internal teams are reviewing the logs. We will update this post once we have more information.

If anyone else is experiencing this situation, please bookmark this thread for future updates.

  • no gray markers in the battery history as regularly are shown.
The two red markers on Wednesday morning are a recorded run with workout and navigation, so that is normal but afterwards the system does not turn into idle mode.
The period before the two red markers is sleeping with display off and pulse ox on, before 22.35 this was definitely shown as gray.
The battery widget shows this as System>Other usage.

  • i have the same issue on my Tactix 8 solar. battery is draining more than twice as fast since the 22.35 update. I have tried the power cycling, and the battery recalibration, but neither made a difference. The long battery life is one of the main reasons I go with Garmin, so it is very disappointing to have to charge my watch once a week.

  • I'm having the exact same issue since the update and have tried the usual reboot, have connected to Garmin Express, etc.  Just replying here to document that the issue seems to be widespread.  I need the battery life back to normal for an endurance race next week.

  • Same issue since the update. T8, 51mm MIPS, Solar. Battery life went from amazing to terrible.

  • Hi all,

I’m seeing a similar battery drain issue on my tactix 8 Solar after software 22.35.

I tried to isolate the cause and collected some battery data.

    Device/settings:

    • Model: tactix 8 Solar
    • Software: 22.35
    • Watch faces used during the test: native Garmin watch faces only, Delta and Analog 001
    • Pulse Ox: sleep only
    • No GPS activity, no music, no manual Wi-Fi sync
    • Backlight/display usage was minimal
    • Connect IQ was later fully cleaned: 0 watch faces, 0 apps, 0 data fields, 0 music
    • Auto update and update notifications in Connect IQ Store are off

    Test 1: Phone Connection OFF

    • Start: 100%
    • After ~24 hours: 98%
    • Battery usage: about 2% per day
    • This looked normal.

Test 2: Phone Connection ON, before removing Connect IQ items

    • Start: 98%
    • After ~24 hours: 88%
    • Battery usage: about 10% per day
    • Battery report showed:

      • System: 11%
      • Other: 9%
      • Phone Connection: 1%
      • Display: <1%
      • Pulse Ox: <1%
      • Wi-Fi: <1%

So the drain does not show directly under “Phone Connection”. Most of it appears under System → Other.

Then I removed all Connect IQ items, rebooted the watch, and repeated the test with Phone Connection still ON.

Test 3: Phone Connection ON, Connect IQ empty, after reboot

    • Start: 88%
    • After ~24 hours: 81%
    • Usage since last charge: 6%
    • Battery report showed:

      • System: 6%
      • Other: 4%
      • Phone Connection: 1%
      • Map: <1%

One interesting detail: during this 24-hour test I was not wearing the watch for most of the day after waking up, so this was close to an idle test. There were no activities recorded.

    Summary:

    • Phone Connection OFF: about 2% per day
    • Phone Connection ON: about 6–10% per day
    • Connect IQ removal improved things somewhat, but the drain is still much higher with Phone Connection ON
    • The extra drain mostly appears under System → Other, not directly under Phone Connection

This looks like a Phone Connection / Bluetooth / Garmin Connect / firmware 22.35 related drain, possibly with some Connect IQ interaction, but not caused by GPS, Pulse Ox, display, or an active third-party watch face in my current test.

I can provide photos of the battery usage screens if useful.

  • I just got my Tactix 8 Solar 51mm and am having the same issues. I actually got my watch replaced today, and the issue persisted, solidifying that it was a software issue. Right now, I was able to find an older software update to roll back, far away from 22.35. While it's a firmware update from 11 months ago, I was also having 20-ish % battery drain with most settings off
