Feature Request: Military functions

Why is it still not possible at Garmin to register military activities/requirements such as marching, speed marching or obstacle course with a weight load. A soldier nowadays always carries at least 15kg of extra weight as battle load. This can increase to >40kg during longer marchetraining. The activity registration by Garmin is like its a Sunday walk and follow-up running trainings are not adjusted in any way. Garmin registers these marches with weight even as as a low intensity activity while 10-15km through mountainous terrain with 40+ kg on your back isnt that relaxed.

The average soldier does little with the special militairy taxtix functions like free fall parachuting or advanced ballistics on a daily basis. It would be nice if Garmin would offer options all military personel will use. That is physical training with equipment/weight load.

  • What about the rucking activity which is available on the T/F 8 series? You can add a weight up to 100kg…or are you talking about, that the rucking activity isn’t handling the weight impact useful for military use and there should be added more for military needs specialized activities?Haven’t tested rucking activity myself yet, so I can’t judge.

  • Not sure why you would need a marching and speed marching app? I think the new rucking app will do! As for obstacle course, you would need to define what obstacles are existing (worldwide) and then put the information in the app, like the different exercises for strength or yoga and then build your own course. While that sounds kinda cool, I don't think this will ever happen, since it requires Garmin to spend resources and money on it...

  • I found the Rucking Calories 2 app gives a bunch of load carrying metrics.

  • I agree the adding more military-specific functions would make the Tactix 8 even more versatile for field use. Features like advanced grid reference tools or expanded night vision compatibility would be great.
