Replying to myself this comment in the DCRM review makes me believe this is not gonna happen this time. May be Gen3 will come earlier than previous MARQ Cycle, to benefit from both HW and SW new features…
Thank god! The fenix 8 AMOLED UI looks cheap and ugly. One of the most ugly UI along with the 965 or venu 3. If a new MARQ 3 has such a messy interface I'd think twice if I really want to buy that. Just take a look at the weather widget, it will now show you a picture of a sky as a background, while you can almost not read the actual wather data. The whole concept is just terrible. Has a 6th grader done the design?
Fair enough on the UI complaints.
But not happy to see that no new features are coming to the MARQ2.
First i was like “they cant have done it accidentally, maybe they want to address a specific userbase with the bad design” then i saw the live event, and i was like “dafuq, is this a garage startup from my neighborhood?”
i always wondered why the default watchfaces look like *** and why their software is of so bad quality but since that video i understand.
i forgot to mention, however how bad the first releases of their firmware is and how bad their presentation is, the hardware is awesome and overall the products are still top notch for sports use! Have you ever tried doing sports with a apple watch? Its a joke!
I'm definitely looking forward to the new features being added to the marq. But what are those features though? I was hoping for adress navigation, but it seems that's still not possible in the fenix 8.
I'm happy Garmin doesn't throw money away with huge marketing events. It's the device that means, not some manager getting applauses.
This is already possible if you have Apple Maps. Send the address/location to the Garmin Connect App, then send it to your device (with the app), choose an activity on your device and that's it. Does not work with Google Maps I think.
Not sure I agree with you on that. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder so we can agree to differ.
Sometimes things look ugly just because they are new or different. I thought that when I first saw the 1050. After a while though, it just looks more modern now.
You're right on the colour misses though. There is nothing new about this though. Unlike Apple, Garmin's never been that good with their use of colour or UI design language generally. They are getting better though IMO.
For my part, I'm really happy with the design of my Marq 2 Athlete, inside and out. And I can't complain about all the upgrades its had for free already. It's also invaluable to my health and fitness. I hope to use it for at least another year before the battery starts to degrade. By then a Marq 3 could well be out based on new hardware and Fenix 8 customers will be the ones looking on enviously.
It seems the MARQ watches are getting more back porting than Fenix (for example new Pro watch faces that are available for our MARQ models) and tend to follow latest Fenix generation for software (up to the point they launch a new MARQ generation).
I would really like to have the new UI that uses more of the AMOLED capabilities and I prefer over the current UI (personal opinion of course :))
We'll probably see very soon with next beta cycle in a few weeks where the MARQ Gen2 line falls into in terms of software branch (7/7 Pro or 8).
Curious to know indeed. If I am not mistaken, previous Marq was Fenix 5plus generation but received all Fenix 6 software features. I do not expect that it will receive the new UI and given that the code is different, that limits future updates?
