Does anyone know if the upcoming Marq 3 athlete or adventurer series will have an LED flashlight?

Does anyone know if the upcoming Marq 3 athlete or adventurer series will have an LED flashlight?  (It’s the only missing feature that is keeping me from buying one for myself and for my family)

  • Comment is completely irrelevant.  You're in a forum about $2,000 disposable watches. People that wear them are going to have a little bit of money at least.  There's not really any good reason to buy these watches otherwise since you can get more functions on a cheaper newer watch.

  • Without seeking to provoke, your comment (Snareman) is perfectly true. We, as individuals, make value decisions daily about what to buy or what not to buy. I fully understand that I can get the same features for less in, say, an Epix or a Fenix. However, I specifically chose to buy a Marq 2 precisely for its design and for that I must pay. The same applies to us when we buy branding clothing over (here in the UK) that from Marks and Spencer, or a Bugatti Chiron over a Dacia Duster. They all do the same thing but do so differently.

If we disassemble the components of the Marq and establish the material costs we could 'buy' the watch for a minimal sum. But, of course, the Marq 2 is much more than that - there's R&D, taxes, staff costs, buildings overhead, supplier overheads, distribution overheads, retailer margins and so on.

Might I politely suggest that if lokeshvt is unhappy with the cost of a Marq 2 that he (she?) look at a different product for there will be no other resolution?

  • Brother, you ar severely under estimating the labor and tooling cost of these more premium materials. It's not just about rae material cost.

Is there a mark-up? Of course but I'd love to see you pay someone to tool you a watch case, band, and hardware using those materials for the price you mentioned.

  • On the contrary, I’ve taken the upper bound costs, which overestimates the value. As a process engineer, I can confidently say the costs hardly justify the labor and raw materials. First, these items aren’t handmade, they’re CNC-manufactured, so most of the expense comes from quality control. However, the inspection process isn’t vastly different from that of a standard high-precision metal strap that has been blasted. It’s not a safety-critical device like a pacemaker requiring rigorous human QA analysis.

Even their canvas straps are grossly overpriced, to a point where retail store clerks have admitted that alternative non-branded straps cost just 10% of the price and perform just as well taking a small hit in aesthetic. This tactic of turning products into "luxury" items and inflating prices is a common business strategy.  I recently saw a gold colored beard trimmer marked up by $70 simply because it was a "limited edition." Aside from the dye, it was identical to the plain black version, similarly, Garmin really offers nothing more in terms of software upgrades compared to their cheaper models, so you're really just  paying for the catalog they aren't mass producing.

  • Agreed on the Garmin straps.  I do have a few OEM straps including a few of the Marq specific ones. While I do think they are nicer, for the price they aren't 5 to 10 times nicer than the $8-10 third party ones I get of Amazon.

  • Amen to this. Never again, and bottom line, they are almost as ugly as their other watches. After long pondering the conclusion is: mechanical for daily use, Apple watch for sports (remains best looking smartwatch).

  • Clearly the marq is not for you, amen! Enjoy your mechanical.

  • I wouldn't say they are ugly, I actually prefer them to the apple watch, mostly because of the inbuilt navigation that apple does not have, so in a real outdoor setting(hiking outside with no data), Garmin is the clear winner. The MARQ collection looks very good, but their price point is overkill for that "luxury" finish.

  • I am definitely not a fan boy. Garmin is plain ugly, that's mainly the thing.
