MARQ 2 ECG Functionality

Does the new MARQ 2 have ECG functionality?

I've read conflicting information... Does anyone know if it has the technology installed but not yet approved for official use etc?

  • I can understand that.  But traditionally the fenix and (and even more the MARQ) series had the super set of all features being the most expensive version.  Surprised and disappointed they did not plan ahead and include the proper HW for ECG for the newly released MARQ gen2.

  • It's very simple to understand. Venu2 plus is smartwatch with voice speaker for calls and virtual assistant like the competition . It's only natural to put an ECG on it to keep it in line with the rest brands.
Tool watch Pro like marq2 , epix 2 , tactix 7 , fenix7 and the rest of the derivatives have no opponent , practically you have nothing to compare them with .They address a different market segment .
I don't think anyone has bought any of the above mentioned models while waiting for the ECG .
ECG or no ECG they have no direct competitor. AppleWatch Ultra is a toy , I have it and can confirm it and otherwise I don't think we can mention others.

  • I find it dangerous to assume that a tool watch does not need an ECG. It is only the target group that can afford a Marq that will deal with the issue of heart health at some point. And the assumption that the Apple Watch Ultra is a toy is probably more of a software and therefore prioritisation issue. The only other Marq customer in my circle of friends has now switched to the Ultra - because of the ECG. I really hope that Garmin will not become the new NOKIA.

  • I don't want to debate why I've labeled apple watch ultra a toy compared with marq gen2 .Maybe I was too harsh but it's nothing more than an ultra mediated smart watch . I have used apple watch from 1 to 7 version Hermes to be more special and now Ultra and even there are many differences from Garmin (In particular and first and foremost the battery .... not to mention versatility and connection to  pc as independent device) .I apologize if I have disturbed Marq users who wanted ECG but I repeat and I am sure no one bought Marq expecting ECG but for what it offers .

  • If the Marq gen 2 doesn’t have the hardware (I have my doubts despite what Chris says, after all he’s saying what he was told with no specifics) maybe they will release a heart strap that will enable the functionality.

  • Does the technology even exist yet for wearing a HRM to get ECG? It would be a good day when technology reaches that point.

Please note: other than the Venu 2 Plus, no current watch we have in release on our Fitness or Outdoor segment side will provide ECG. The ECQ feature requires unique hardware.

It has been asked in various forums why the Venu 2 Plus received ECG first. My own gut instinct - the demographics of the average Venu 2 Plus owner will most likely have a larger need for ECG. If you look at our feature release history and adding major features, a new major feature is added into one specific watch first.

A few examples looking at our Outdoor segment side when new major features were added.

    - Our Fenix 5X was the first to have onboard maps. (The Fenix 5S and Fenix 5 did not have map ability.)

    - Our Fenix 5X Plus was the first to have PulseOX. (The Fenix 5S Plus and Fenix 5 Plus did not have PulseOx. The entire Fenix 5 Plus series had onboard mapping included.)

    - Our Fenix 6 series all had PulseOX included.

  • Garmin Epix was the first to have onboard maps. :D

Grinning - Factually true. The original square shaped Epix.

  • ECG was approved recently for Venu2+. After the Venu 2+ Garmin released lots of watches. Putting some unapproved technology on all watches is not meaningful. FDA could have said there is an issue with the tech and they won't approve. That would be bad with lots of watches Garmin invested the tech.

At least we know, Garmin will bring more products with ECG from now on...

  • What about the D2 Air X10, isn't that the same hardware as the Venu 2 Plus?

Not that I am aware of. Please keep in mind the ECG feature itself has a very long official regulatory government process period of time. I agree with you, the appearance around the OHR sensor leads to speculation but it definitely does not imply the  ECG ability is coming.

We will make an official announcement for any Fitness or Outdoor watch having the new feature.
