Does the new MARQ 2 have ECG functionality?
I've read conflicting information... Does anyone know if it has the technology installed but not yet approved for official use etc?

We are not able to disclose the future since we are a public traded company. My recommendation is to read each new outdoor watch product announcement and see if a feature gets mentioned that you are interested…
Does the new MARQ 2 have ECG functionality?
No. The MARQ (Gen 2) watch series does not have ECG ability.
We now have official information posted here regarding ECG:
I can understand that. But traditionally the fenix and (and even more the MARQ) series had the super set of all features being the most expensive version. Surprised and disappointed they did not plan ahead…

Seemingly US only
US only, and Venu 2 Plus only - all other current models lack the necessary hardware which is an additional metal ring around the optical heart rate sensor on the back of the watch.
So... the MARQ Gen 2 will not get ECG capability; nor will the current fenix 7 series and Epix Gen 2 watches.
Looks like we will have to wait for new models if we want ECG capability.
We now have official information posted here regarding ECG:
I am still pretty sure that the ECG function will be available for the current Epix/Fexix/Marqs. Yes, the Venue 2 has insulation around the sensor. But on the Fenix/Epix, the entire case section between the sensor and the bezel is insulated - and the current Marq series has an obvious insulation layer below the bezel, despite the titanium case. This would be a really gross design flaw without function. I even tend to think that at least the Marq serio has an additional lead/circuit for the ECG, because the start button also has a very eye-catching design and on the Marq Aviator 2 an insulation layer can be easily guessed.
But Garmin has already confirmed it's not gonna come to any current gen watches except the Venu 2+. I don't know how you can be so sure?

Only if Garmin invented teleportation of hardware components, and is able to remotely replace the optical sensor in your watch, with the one using electrical signals needed for the ECG
Venus 2 Plus, $500, released early 2022 gets the ECG upgrade, but the $2200+ Marq gen 2 released late 2022 cannot get the ECG feature.
Seems like a big miss from Garmin. Am I the only one?

Yes, Marq 2 simply does not have the necessary hardware, hence cannot get the upgrade.
Additional Information:
There is a hardware component for the ECG feature to work. Other than the Venu 2 Plus, there are currently no Outdoor or Fitness segment watches capable of using ECG.

Despite how long I have been with Garmin, I will never know the reason why the Venu 2 Plus was chosen to have the ECG feature first. My gut instinct is the Venu 2 Plus was chosen first due to the demographics of the user base and the percentage of owners that would likely use the feature.
I'd guess along those lines - that maybe they were looking at which of their watches most attracted the same demographic as the Apple Watch. In other words, their main driver for adding this functionality was to remain competitive. I'm not sure that as many MARQ buyers would have been weighing their options up against an AW compared to Venu buyers.
