Instinct Solar Crashing Randomly

Having same issue as everyone else. Got my Instinct Solar in October 2020. It has recently started randomly crashing (despite having over 50% battery remaining) and the only way to get it to work again is to plug it in for a few seconds. I’ve tried different resets and I know my software is up to date. Reached out to support and all they offered was for $140 they would send me a refurbished watch with a 90 day warranty and I would have to pay to send my watch back. I’m pissed. These watches aren’t cheap and it worked great before this started happening. No way I’d spend $140 for a refurbished watch that could easily start doing this same thing. Garmin knows this is an issue and they should figure out a fix or replace our watches. Loved this product, but I wouldn’t buy another Garmin due to lack of customer service. I didn’t spend $400 to have the product malfunction in two years with no support or repair options.

  • I bought this watch two and a half years ago and now have the same problem. Is it an issue of deteriorating battery?

  • yeah I’d be cautious of a refurbed watch given the comments in this forum!

I’m learning that with mine, workouts will be recorded if the battery starts with 20+ days. As soon as it hits ~17-18d it crashes.  I will have to buy something else soon :-/

    So annoyed.

  • support says if you clear.fit files and create capacity that mitigates the problem. Not true. Once you get below about 70% battery if you start an activity you will see crashes, loss of timekeeping, and loss of GPS connectivity

Really liked this product up to 3 weeks ago. Now useless

  • SOLUTION ( it works for me)

My watch crashed when the alarm went off, a timer finished or an activity was started and saved  , in all these cases the watch vibrates.

Turn off all the VIBRATE  functions in your watch:

    MENU button ( long press)

ABC button to SETTINGS  : GPS button to enter menu

ABC button to system : GPS button to enter menu

ABC button to SOUNDS : GPS button to enter menu

    TURN OFF VIBRATE

Also in the widgets TIME - ALARM  set  the VIBRATE  function off, use sound only.

Please give me feedback if it's working or not.  TNX

  • Was hoping after 19.01 update crash issue will be resolved. But again this morning, middle of swim activity, crash. Started another, crashed again. Frustrated!

  • Worked for 2 weeks, and today, again crashed twice in the middle of pool swim. Battery at 59%. I'm almost sure it is related to battery power remaining.

  • i did the same and it works

  • i did the same and it works

  • Same issue with me, on holiday with various walks/runs and randomly switches itself off, holding top left is switching it back on but it’s losing 8-hours plus of heart rate/stress/steps/body battery data each time (once a day!). Grr. Garmin shop just said “it’s old tech” and tried to sell me the new version which is HUGE on my tiny wrist.
