Unable to Upgrade to Version 7.08

I previously encountered an issue when upgrading my Instinct 3 Solar 50mm from version 6.28 to 6.29. Neither the Garmin Express on PC nor the OTA update via my phone could complete the upgrade successfully. I also tried solutions mentioned by other forum users, such as deleting unnecessary files and even performing a full reset, but the update still failed.

My watch's maximum available storage is only 14.6MB. Garmin support advised me to wait for the next version update. Today, I received an OTA prompt for version 7.08, and I eagerly attempted the update via both OTA on the watch and PC, but it still didn't work. I remain stuck on version 6.28.

A very small number of users seem to have the same issue. Official support has confirmed that this is a software problem, not a hardware issue. Could you please clarify when this will finally be fixed?

  • Has anyone been able to upgrade to 7.08 WITHOUT first wiping the watch completely?  I've followed  guide and others, and just can't free up enough space.  The updates in the release aren't huge for me, so I'm not sure it's worth it to wipe and then completely rebuild the watch all over again.  Yuck.

  • You will not lose any data from connect in mobile or in web connect. All data from watch are automatically fed to web connect thru mobile. So the only thing what happen that your watch will be like after deleiion od history of all acrivities( not visible just in watch) nothing else. You wont lose any data which had been synchronizet yet

  • Yes, i should of been more specific.  I know.all my activities and what not will live in the cloud.  I meant I really don't want to recreate activities, sensors, garmin pay, watch faces, appa and so on. This will all need to be redone from scratch.  Unlike a fenix watch where you can do a backup restore of all data to a watch.

  • Then delete all the rest. A i also did not delete card or activoties, faces( even forwarding trainings from the connect to watch is 1minute job). Check what folders are recommded to be deleted and and the beginning of thread.

  • No need to keep trying in vain. The reason they succeeded is that their devices had no issues. After multiple failed attempts, I contacted customer service, but even they couldn't free up enough space for the upgrade. In the end, they replaced my device with a new one, and everything worked perfectly.

  • No, i had the same issue.  Not enough memory to get latest update (causing exactly what he described). Once 33,5MB free after deletion, just then the update been installed properly. Ofcourse there might be other reasons to be stuck at the same spot..

  • In my case, I did not free up any space on the watch. I was using Garmin express on my laptop, without success. Using the Garmin connect app via a phone is what finally allowed me to install the update. The phone app "uploaded" the update to my watch, then I had to select install via the watch itself, which was then successful.
