Agreed, the constant issues I have had are enough to make me consider returning the watch. This level of incompetence is unforgivable for a company their size and for a watch that costs nearly 500 dollars…

It looks like a hardware design problem (two low memory). Just my two cents.
I've had nothing but issues with this update as well. Express won't work like yours and then installing on the watch just gets stuck on restart. I've restored default settings, re paired, restarted and nothing seems to work. Pretty bummed.

I just got off a long chat with Garmin. Still no fix. Seems like more users are reporting the issue. It's a new watch and I have 90 days to return to REI if need be. Gonna stick it out and see if they can update a fix as I like the watch overall. But yeah, $500 for a watch that can't install an update because it doesn't have enough memory seems crazy.
mikefolden Had the same issue with my new I3 50mm solar. Failed on garmin express on a pc. I then tried to do the update from my phone with over the air update. That worked and no issues installing with the 6.29 using this method.
I got the update to install by factory resetting the watch, connected to the watch using the garmin phone app and initiated the install from the watch itself. It took a couple tries and i just messed around with it till it worked.
I think the desktop app is the main source of the issue, at least for me and a few other people. But i can’t say whether or not resetting everything helped.
When i connected to the app, i let the app sync and send the update to the watch, but only initiated the update from the watch. It failed a few times and i had to re pair it, and eventually it worked. Hope that works out if you try it.
Same Problem here. Watch internal memory 12,7MB but Update need more than 16 MB. I contacted garmin support and wait for action

Had same problem. Factory Reset watch, connect again and started update on watch instead off using express was the trick. good luck

Garmin is investigating reports of a Garmin Express displaying an error when updating Instinct 3 Solar device. As a work around, we recommend Adding your Watch to the Garmin Connect App and update through the app. This is a software-related bug and your device does not need to be exchanged.
