[6.29 Instinct 3 Solar] The latest software does not fit on your device's inter memory

Garmin Express displays the following error trying to install the 6.29 on my Instinct 3 Solar:

"The latest software does not fit on your device's inter memory"

Garmin is investigating reports of a Garmin Express displaying an error when updating Instinct 3 Solar device. As a work around, we recommend Adding your Watch to the Garmin Connect…

Agreed, the constant issues I have had are enough to make me consider returning the watch. This level of incompetence is unforgivable for a company their size and for a watch that costs nearly 500 dollars…

It seems more than a software bug with Garmin Express. People is saying that even without Garmin Express, all activities and data will be need to be removed due to the low memory available. Needing to remove everything is not very convenient.

The update is available on the watch now through Connect but when I go to install 6.29 it just re installs 6.28. I’ve tried multiple times with the same result.

Unfortunately no such option on my I3 Solar... I am on 5.21 and the only options under "Software update" menu are: (1) "Autoupdate" (on/off) and (2) "What's new". Nothing more... The same in the GCA.

You can clean up the following folders, to make the needed room for the firmware update:

//GARMIN/Activity/ - all files
//GARMIN/RemoteSW/ - all files
//GARMIN/Debug/ - all files
//GARMIN/Courses/ - remove unneeded courses
//GARMIN/Workouts/ - remove unneeded workouts
//GARMIN/Text/ - remove all unneeded languages

You could also remove some unneeded Connect IQ apps, if there are any

I had the same issue. Garmin Express would cause errors. I then did it via my phone and it failed. After I turned on 'Auto Update,' it showed as available and then it installed fine. Try that, if not already.

Update March 24, 2025:

Our engineers have found that the following steps will clear up enough space to complete the software update.

Power off device
Hold top right button while Plugging into a computer
Open the Garmin Drive
Open the Garmin Folder
Delete the ExtData folder, New Files Folder, and RemoteSW folders
Unplug the device and hold down the light button for 20-30 seconds to power it on
Try and update the device on Garmin Connect Mobile and/or Garmin Express.

There is no Garmin drive on a Mac... How is that Garmin still doesn't support the Mac properly??
