Instinct 3 with AMOLED now available!

Well...what a pleasant surprise!

3 different sizes and 3 different displays...or rather two. The old display is available with solar and without.

Tactical not out but the information on their website stae that the new Instincts have tactical features.

Colors are....interesting!

  • I think most people would be better off to get a Epix 7 pro.

Fair enough. We agree here - if you need maps, do not buy Instinct, buy another watch. I do not need maps, Instinct is good enough for me. I would not see the maps on the small screen anyway. Courses and navigation are all I need on the watch. When I need maps, I prefer the phone (or even a paper map).

And as for the courses, BTW:

Maybe the I3 can load a 8.000 points course (25km +1800m) in less than 15 minutes.

Yes, indeed, it can. Loading 27 km course with 12139 trackpoints results in the following times:

    • I3 Solar 50mm - 10s to load the course after confirming Do Course, 16s delay after starting the course
    • I3 AMOLED 50mm - instantaneous load after Do Course, 5s after starting the course

The I3 AMOLED model in general, is much faster and more responsive than the I3 Solar model.

  • How long does it take to load the course once you select it in the course list? From the moment you select it until the course drawing appears.

  • How long does it take to load the course once you select it in the course list?

It is written in my post - 10s at I3 Solar, and unmeasurable (practically instant, perhaps 1s, though probably less) at AMOLED

  • Oh, sry. I mistranslated your words.

  • Hi trux.

So both CPUs are better than the CPU the I2X has and the CPU of the Amoled is better than the CPU of the MIP watch, right?

  • Yes, that's what I can observe. I do not know though which CPUs are used in any of the watches.

  • Fair enough. We agree here - if you need maps, do not buy Instinct, buy another watch. I do not need maps, Instinct is good enough for me.

I can't believe that some people chose to defend Garmin and the lack of maps in the I3 Amoled. "If you don't like it, choose another watch." Great argument, Garmin dreams of such consumer sheep who will buy every one of their products if they just stick another number on it.

  • You do not have to be a sheep - Do not like Instinct? Do not like Garmin? Do not be a sheep. Buy a different brand. That's how the market works. Others have their own brains to decide what is good enough for them or not.

  • I can't believe that some people chose to defend Garmin and the lack of maps in the I3 Amoled.

I don´t like it either, but the Instinct series never had maps. But because Amazfit has released an 99$ amolded device with maps, it is hard to understand why an up to 499$ I3 amoled has no maps. Garmin has clearly not done itself any favors with this (from my point of view) but that´s Garmin...

  • It is very easy. Garmin needs to justify the price of Fenix 8. So they cannot release a 500$ watch with maps while others are doing a 99$ watch with them.
