Instinct 3 with AMOLED now available!

Well...what a pleasant surprise!

3 different sizes and 3 different displays...or rather two. The old display is available with solar and without.

Tactical not out but the information on their website stae that the new Instincts have tactical features.

Colors are....interesting!

  • No surprise at all. Nothing for me to update.
Wonder about satIQ.Is it a hardware restriction or is it possible to get it through update?

  • SatIQ is not enough to change a watch for the same watch with SatIQ. Why in the *** should I change a 2024 I2X for the same watch in 2025?

  • Maybe you should read again what i wrote or is it your nickname?

Even with all the "updates" of the 3, updating from 2X isn't an option.

But i would like satIQ in my 2x.

  • add bigger memory

Well, at least that was fulfilled. I3 AMOLED model has 4GB memory, and I3 Solar has 128 MB (4× the size of I2, and twice the memory of I2X or Crossover)

As for the higher resolution and removed ring, that's available on the AMOLED model (416×416 pixels vs 176×176 pixels at I2).

  • But without maps, why should we need that extra memory?

The MIP resolution of the I3 is the same as the I2's and nobody asked for Amoled in this watch.

Perhaps if they added the climb pro or a remaining ascent distance to a waypoint...

Thanks for pointing about the extra mem

  • As an i2x user I am a little bit disappointed, I was trying the Fenix 7X pro but it feels a little bit to big and to heavy for me, the I2x is the perfect size for me. So I had high hopes for the new instinct. But the only thing that is better in my opinion is the new black solar panel on the MIP Version. If I could upgrade my i2x for 100€ I would probably try. I also could not understand why they added a Amoled display to an outdoor watch, instead of a colour MIP display. A version with colour MIP and solar Is also something I would consider to buy.

  • Maybe the I3 can load a 8.000 points course (25km +1800m) in less than 15 minutes. The I2X processor is like the one in a 2010 year watch

  • With exactly the same battery numbers as the I2X and the same screen (not considering the solar charge), is seems pretty much the same watch. At least the MIP one. I hope someone can review it soon. It's very dissapointing everything.

  • But without maps, why should we need that extra memory?

Personally, I do not care about maps. I bough Instinct knowing it does not offer maps. If I wanted maps, I would get a different model. Garmin offers many watches with maps, so why not choosing a model with features you need. Adding maps would shorten the battery life and/or drive the price up.

nobody asked for Amoled in this watch

How do you know? Personally I am quite happy about Garmin bringing it to Instinct. Much better readability under normal or bad light conditions. The only time MIP beats AMOLED is under the direct sunlight at noon in full summer.

why should we need that extra memory?

You asked for it, didn't you? Extra memory is always useful - at I2 it was so limited, that Garmin already has troubles adding new features, new sport profiles, or putting all languages on the same model. With bigger memory you do not need to bother about deleting old activities, workouts, courses. You have more room for CIQ apps, etc, etc.

  • Looking harder at the specs, looks like the I3 MIP 50mm might very much be just a more responsive I2x with satIQ. Wait for detailed review to confirm my guess.
