16.11 Instinct 2 Solar battery drain issue.

With 16.11 firmware battery collapsed to basically 24h-30h, became a one-day watch.

How many more people have the same problem?
How do I go back to the previous firmware, does anyone have a link?

  • My watch was still under warranty. I reported the error to the retailer and local Garmin replaced the watch.

  • My watch had the upgrade only yesterday, despite me owning it for about 5 months, and I lost 7 days of battery life overnight. It also changed all

my units to imperial from metric, and didn’t register any sleep even though the sleep schedule was set up for the normal hours I sleep.

  • I carefully read 3 or 4 pages of the thread. I recently bought my first GARMIN watch to use it for low accuracy GPS surveying only. Thanks for all the comments. I have now disabled auto-update.

  • Also wanting to chime in here, but with a positive note. I bought an Instinct 2S (non-solar) a month ago and it came with 13.x out of the box. After unboxing, I connected it to Garmin Express on my computer and updated to 16.11. No battery issues here so far, battery life is as I have expected it going into the 2S (with it's small battery and all). With GPS activity of 30 minutes per day and a lot of tinkering with the watch (trying to get the gist of developing my own apps with CIQ), I get a battery life of around 10 days from full to empty.

  • 2s here myself, but using GPS+ Glonass my battery drains roughly 20% per hour. The crazy battery drain seemingly came suddenly, and I tried all the advice given on this forum here and on reddit, with the exception of a full on factory default reset as the last thing to try. Really annoying as I have to charge daily now, or multiple times a day.
    Watch is ~2y8months old.

  • Did you use the "Surf" activity on your watch recently by any chance? There are reports in this forum that this can cause sending the watch into this rapid battery drain loop with the only fix for it being a replacement by Garmin.

  • Not in my case as I don't surf ever, so not needed in my case. ^^' I updated to the beta firmware to see if that would magically fix things. So far it seems better, maybe? But I'll need to do more testing.Did go on a 1h walk, tho, with GPS only and I am still at 88% so that's an improvement at least. Usually I'd be at ~70% by now just from that.

  • Something definitely changed as my watch has been stuck on 88% ever since I got home ~3 hours ago. Normally I'd drain from 100% to ~85% within a few hours with bluetooth disabled, but 1h walk, idling with BT enabled and still 88% several hours later.

  • Watch is real weird now. I went to sleep still 88% and woke up at 88% still. So like 14+h on 88%.
Then I went on a 1h10m walk and lost down to 68%

Then biked for 41m and went down to 63% and it's been stuck 63% for 1-2 hours now.

Guessing the calibration got royally f***d because of the update somehow, like gradually over time or something idk, but idk how to manually recalibrate it other than keep doing what I've been doing and hope it eventually adjusts over maybe 10-20 cycles from 100% to 0%? idk
