My Instinct 2x shows very large fluctuations despite constant air pressure (my tactix 7 pro shows constant air pressure, and the weather station in my area also agrees with the tactix).
A test has shown that my barometer reacts extremely sensitively to temperature fluctuations.
This should not actually be the case, as the barometer has a temperature sensor built in, which is actually intended to detect temperature changes and compensate for them in the barometer algorithm.
I have made two time-lapse videos at triple speed.
One video shows how quickly the displayed pressure decreases when the watch cools down.
The second video shows how quickly the displayed pressure increases as the watch warms up.
In my opinion, there is a problem here. This behavior is obviously not normal.
Even with a set value of 4.5 hPa in the settings, i very often receive incomprehensible storm warnings. Even though the air pressure does not actually change.
The watch has already been reset to factory settings several times (unpromped reset), and both the firmware and the additional components (sns etc.) are up to date to latest stable. The sensor openings are free and clean.
It doesn't matter which sensor mode I use, the result is always the same. I have used "barometer only" in the videos.
I can clearly link the change in the pressure displayed on my watch to temperature fluctuations. The watch always behaves the same. If the temperature rises, the displayed pressure increases. If it drops, the displayed pressure drops. It is clearly reproducible.
I can't tell whether this is a problem with the software or whether my watch has a sensor defect.
In the videos, I worked with a cooling pad and a flashlight, as this was the best way to make the changes clear. In practice, however, it is enough to take off my watch to see clear fluctuations. Even if I hold my finger against the watch for a while and the watch warms up as a result, the barometer reacts.
Before I contact product support, I would like to find out if others can reproduce the problem. If it is a software problem, it will also occur with a replacement watch.
It would be nice if you could try my test yourself and give feedback on the result here.
