HRV status always poor

As the title says, since I got my Instinct 2x my overnight hrv status is always in the "poor" region. The baseline says "no data", which means there is no baseline essentially and the data stays sub 20 every night. I tried wearing the watch in every way possible, always snug. Also, I tried resetting (hard reset) but it did not help at all. All other statistics are broken due to this, training status is always "strained" because " ... but your hrv status indicates that youl may need more time to recover". I'm sporty and generally feel great and very healthy. What is happening? Is my watch defectous? My HR measurments are accurate enough for a wrist based hr monitor. I really like this watch, it fits my needs perfectly but it's a shame to have all the data broken for whatever reason. It's been like this since I got it back in June.

  • since I got my Instinct 2x

How long is it? You need to wait up to 3 weeks for the HRV baseline to be established

the data stays sub 20 every night

What HRV values do you get when taking the Health Snapshot? If it is low too, I recommend checking the HRV with an alternative device, or in a lab.

  • I have it since last June. Last time I reset it was several months ago. The baseline should've been established long ago.

When using health snapshot I get around 50. I don't use it too often though. I had a different brand watch and my HRV indicator was working properly, meaning it had a baseline value after a while and followed pretty accurately my well being trends.

  • How does the overnight HRV graph look like? Is the HRV low all night long, or are there big differences, with some periods without HRV signal? You can find the Overnight HRV curve on the Sleep graph (you have to click the button Overnight HRV under the graph).

Perhaps the wrist band is too tight, or too loose, or you move too much in the night, or seep on the arm, or suffer from peripheral vasoconstriction (due to cold, or due to snoring), or the watch is too big for your wrist - there are plenty of possibilities, but principally there is no systematic problem with the firmware or hardware - it works fine for many others (including myself).

  • The interesting thing that I just noticed thanks to your suggestion is that there seems to be something off with the overnight measurments...look at the screenshot. How is it that there seems to be no data for the hrv?? Do I have to change a setting or something?

As far as my sleep goes, I don't have any of the problems you cited, I sleep like a dead body, wearing the watch properly (in my opinion, I followed the garmin guidelines and experience).

  • You probably enabled the Battery Saver during the sleep. And since the Battery Saver turns off most of the sensors, including the HRM, there is no HR monitoring, no sleep monitoring, and of course, also no HRV tracking. Disable the Battery Saver at night, and you'll get both the HRV data, as well as Sleep analysis.

  • I immediately checked and it is not on.I remember disabling it thinking it would disable everything by default. I do get sleep data (like on the screen below), but no hrv data overnight.

  • Ok, so I went back some nights (beginning of January) and found a night which actually has the HRV data. Something seems off though, it's strange it didn't record the last 2-3 weeks, even if the rest of the sleep statistics are present...

  • When you tap the button "Overnight HRV", the sleep stages disappear? Normally, when you activate the Overnight HRV - the sleeps stages stay on the graph.

  • The latest nights yes, it just shows a completely empty graph, like this:

  • Well, if you already tried the hard reset without success, you should try the master reset to factory defaults, and if it does not help, then reach out to the Support.
