Instinct Crossover Solar Scratches on Screen (part 2)

Managed to get a pic of scratches on my crossover’s screen. As I said in my last post these are only visible under certain lighting conditions and at a certain angle.

The watch itself is not treated roughly at all and I’ve no idea what could be causing these scratches, but the screen/lense should not be this easy to scratch Smirk

  • Haven't looked at the this model specification, but doesn't it have anti reflective coating which is easy to scratch? Common on more expensive watches.

  • With all due respect, you had to be pretty negligent for those kind of scratches to appear on your watch. I had the crossover for several months and wore it daily, and never once had an issue. Yes, the glass is higher towards the surface and it is easier to scratch than the instinct models, but for you to have those many scratches on there, you beat up on it.

  • Well, nothing is indestructible, but for something that Garmin themselves define like the paragraph below, taken from the Crossover product page, one would not expect to have to babysit much a "rugged" watch:

    BUILT TO KEEP UP

Bold. Rugged. Dual-layered bezel. Just a few words we like in a row. Especially when it houses a high-resolution digital display with smart functionality. Plus, this watch is water-rated to 10 ATM and is thermal- and shock-resistant. So you can do what you do.

  • Also with due respect, you don’t know what you’re talking about.
As I originally said, this watch has not been treated roughly at all. Are you calling me a liar?

I was wearing it 24/7, apart from when doing diy or gardening ( or when charging it) when it was ALWAYS taken off. The only activities I have ever done while wearing it are road cycling and walking.

So yes, good for you that your watch has not scratched at all but don’t go around saying I have been negligent when you have no proof at all, and it is 100% untrue

As I have also said, two of my previous watches, the Fenix 6 Solar and instinct 2 Solar had no scratches at all. They were treated no differently to the icrossover.

  • What is it that you like better in the I2X vs the Crossover?

Definitely the screen size.  My eyes have a bit of age on them and the Crossover's data fields are just too small to use during faster moving activities (running/MTB/etc.)  The hands don't help.  So for activities it's always the I2X.  The Crossover is great for slower activities (walk/hike) where you have more time to glance at the data pages.  It's also a bit "cooler" with the hands to wear when I'm just out and about.

  • Nobody is calling any body a liar. But then again, every single person who has reported scratching on their watches has never bumped, bashed, or banged the watch. Scratches just appear automagically.

Thanks, this is quite intriguing. I see in the specs that the display resolution is the same (176 x 176 pixels) in the Crossover and I2X. However, the display in the I2X is 27x27mm vs 23x23mm in the Crossover. It means that the same font size will look bigger in the I2X.

I need to make a trip to a store that has both and do a comparison. I am no spring chicken either, but I can still read without glasses. So far I have had no issues with the display and fonts of my Vivomove Style, which has a 24x19mm display and a resolution of 240x240 pixels

  • Those kind of scratches just don’t appear magically. You were negligent with your watch and you’re not taking ownership of that. Your money not mine. I just call things as they are.

    Have fun complaining…Wink

  • As I said, the scratches are very fine and only visible from a certain angle.

Here's a pic. looking at the watch from directly above. If you saw this pic you would, most likely, say that the screen was fine.

So why do you bother about it at all? If it makes you nervous, get a refund if you still can, or sell the watch, and get or keep a model you are confident with. No need to whine on the forum a week long just because you have some tiny invisible scratches on a watch that never claimed to use a 100% scratch-proof glass.
