Bug Report: Backlight issue (Garmin Chris)

Backlight comes on with gesture with ALL backlight options set to off (Please no comments on wrong settings, have used plenty of Garmin watches including the Instinct)

I think it may be limited to after sunset to sunrise only? Annoying.

Yup, mine does the same. Light doesn’t switch on with every wrist gesture, but definitely does come on automatically sometimes. All gesture settings set to ‘off’. On firmware 6.12.

I can confirm this too, not sure what it triggered. There is a setting for during sleep, you can only set brightness and timeout, maybe thats the problem?

Looks like it is, as suggested, connected with times set for sleep. It is ONLY during these times that my backlight comes on automatically with a hand movement/gesture, which I definitely do not want!…

Follow the step I outlined above concerning the do not disturb setting, hopefully should work!

I have the same issues as everyone else… gesture set to off on all settings and the backlight still comes on unless do not disturb is enabled. My fiancé has the Instinct 2s and the gesture settings work accordingly with the menu descriptions… so, it would be nice to know what’s causing this or if I should exchange mine with a new one after finally getting a glass screen protector for it :-/

I had the same issue until yesterday when I did the update to 6.16 and now my issue has been resolved. I see.you stated that you are at 6.16.. so 5his doesn't help. Read through the message board and there is a guy named Chris who works with/for Garmin. Make sur when is tagged in this to help

The backlight turns on all day for me (Instinct 2 Solar v6.16), regardless of settings, with gestures and buttons.

My settings:

During activity:
Brightness: 20%
Buttons: after sunset
Alerts: after sunset
Gesture: off
Timeout: 8s

General use:
Brightness: 20%
Buttons: after sunset
Alerts: after sunset
Gesture: off
Timeout: 8s

I had this issue until I did the update but that only lasted for a few days and now it is doing it again. No matter the settings, the backlight comes on due to gestures.

Maybe I miss spoke, it comes on all the time with gestures. Not that it is on at all time. Seems like it, but it's due to gestures even though I have all gestures off.

Hey Chris, I’m having the same issues on my replacement watch. If I set the gesture to off (under all profiles), it still comes on in the evenings after sunset. It stays off during the day though. I’m aware there different options for settings… quite a bit past that. Either there’s a bad batch of watches with hardware issues, or it is likely a software issue.

Well, set everything to off and it’s 2PM. The backlight is still coming on. . My watch is correctly counting steps… I’m assuming the accelerometer is fine.
