Treadmill Activity

I have a problem using the profile of the bierznia. when he marches with his hands down, the watch does not count distance, steps, pace. as soon as I start running and lift my hands on the folded shoulders everything works. Do you have that too? it doesn't make sense. is it some kind of hardware fault or software? I'll add that at 8.24pm I had that too

  • If you're asking whether you need to swing your watch arm to get pace and distance on a treadmill (or any other indoor run without GPS), the answer is - in general - yes. In the absence of GPS, the watch determines movement based on the motions of your arm, using the accelerometer inside the watch.

If you want pace and distance indoors without swinging your arm, you will need an accessory:

    - foot pod, like Stryd or the discontinued Garmin foot pod (*not* the Garmin RD-Pod)

    - Garmin chest strap, like HRM-RUN, HRM-PRO, or the new HRM-600

These accessories will provide pace and distance indoors without requiring you to swing your watch arm. Some would say that a basic foot pod is more accurate than the wrist accelerometer, and that a Stryd is even more accurate than that. (Stryd is not cheap tho.)

    • Thank you for explaining. However, this does not answer my question. Why, if I have my hand down, it still shows the pace of 0 and the distance Thank you for explaining. but that doesn't answer my question. why if I have my hand down, it still shows the tempo 0 and the distance 0. do you have that too? or maybe my accelerometer is damaged.
  • Maybe I don't understand the question?

What do you mean by "I have my hand down"? Are you still swinging your arm?

If your arm is not moving (e.g. you're holding the treadmill rails), then the watch will not detect movement.

If you swing your arms in a natural running motion, the watch will detect movement and your pace, distance, and cadence stats will be updated as expected.

If you cannot swing your arms while you run indoors for some reason, then I again would suggest that you need to use an accessory (like a foot pod which you wear on your shoe, or a heart rate monitor which you wear on your chest).

  • Yes, I mean normal walking on a treadmill, during which you swing your arm like during a regular walk. In that case, the watch keeps showing pace 0, steps 0, and distance 0. As soon as you bend your arm like for running, it counts normally. I’m wondering if you have the same issue too.

  • I see. Maybe you could use the Walk Indoor profile instead?

Sorry, I don't have a ton of experience with indoor walking timed activities. I have used the Indoor Walk profile a couple of times, and my only observation was that it estimates less distance than the watch does if I just walk indoors without recording a timed activity.

  • Walk indoors have the same problems.

When he marches on the treadmill with his hand down, he does not detect pace or steps. For this reason, I am looking for someone who can start this activity and check whether walking around the House or walk on the treadmill to test . Maybe my watch is damaged.
