There is an option to share my course stored on my watch with my wife as long as she is nearby, BUT-

Can someone clarify if I’m missing a step, or if this is a bug?

Today my wife and I went hiking. She has a brand-new Vivoactive 6 and was excited to try navigation with a trail I already had on my watch.

Here’s what I did:

  • Selected Hiking as my activity

  • Opened the course on my watch-clicked more-

  • Chose Share with nearby Garmin users

My assumption: if another Garmin user (her Vivoactive 6) is right next to me, we just confirm pins and the course transfers.

Her watch has Share enabled, but mine never detected it—no matter how close we stood. This is odd because the same feature works flawlessly with our Garmin bike computers.

Yes, I know I can share the course via Garmin Connect (email/text), but I don’t get why watch-to-watch sharing isn’t working. Is this a compatibility limitation with the Vivoactive line, or should it work and I’m overlooking something?

Would love input from anyone who’s used this feature specifically between watches.

I am sorry to hear you are having trouble using Garmin Share. I can confirm there is no limitation with sharing between the Fenix 8 and the Vivoactive 6. I was able to test this and successfully send between the 2, from either device. If this is not working, I would recommend trying a few steps:

    • Ensure both watch are on the latest software version.
    • Power each watch off, then on again.
    • Ensure you have updates your Public Profile name: Using Garmin Share
    • And once both devices are in sharing mode, be sure to select the device as soon as it appears. This may only show available very briefly.
