High rest time after Sprint training

Already the second Sprint training (3 times 100 meters at a pace of 3 minutes per kilometer after 3 minutes of rest, only two laps) gives inadequately high rest time (50+ and 70+ hours). Training readiness drops very low. Subsequent training is accordingly incorrect and does not correspond to the actual state of fitness.

  • What kind of Anaerobic Training Effect did you get for this workout? It's a number between 1 and 5 on the "Stats" section of your workout. 50-70 hours suggest you got something like a 4.

The watch usually freaks out about anaerobic training in general, more than about any other training type, but it also makes some sense as it comes with the most muscle damage that needs to be followed by easier training days. Recovery time does not mean "don't do any training", it means don't do other hard training like threshold runs and similar. I think in general having a few days of easier training after sprints is reasonable.

Also I noticed with higher overall training load the algorithm freaks out less about anaerobic efforts too, but it still weighs them quite heavily.

If you want to override it, choose another Daily Suggested Workout from the following 6 days instead of using the one for today, though I usually regret when I do that. Slight smile You can find them in Run activity -> Training -> Workout Library -> Daily Suggestions.

  • thanks for the answer! but for some reason it didn't work for Sprint training for cycling)))

  • Did you have other sprint trainings in the last ~4 weeks, or was this a unique one? That might explain why Garmin gave it higher weight, despite it not being that impactful overall. Though I don't claim to understand how this works, I usually am also surprised about the recovery figures for sprints/max effort intervals.

  • Yes, on August 29th there was the first sprint (training with the same structure), with approximately the same results (the load was even greater and amounted to 100). Before that, I didn't seem to do the proposed running training with Sprint. I only did Sprint on the bike.

  • All right, so it makes some sense to tell you to take it easy after sprint training. If you do more, it will be gradually less worried about them. But sprints are hard in general. I get muscle soreness usually in 2 days after them if I follow my DSW sprints/anaerobic ones, while I have no such issue even after harder threshold trainings.

  • maybe. but it's still strange that something like this didn't happen after the bike sprints (even more difficult ones). Six hundred meters can't give a load at the level of Ironman 70.3)))

  • I had Sprint training on August 29th and September 26th.
