Why do I have to keep my Garmin Fenix 8 connected to Wi-Fi?

Good morning,
This might be a silly question, but could someone explain to me why I have to keep my Fenix 8 always connected to Wi-Fi (supposedly draining the watch's battery), even though it's constantly connected (and updating) to Garmin Connect via Bluetooth?

just switch it off. Wifi is just a second/alternative method for syncing the watch. Afaik the only thing you definitely need it for is updating the map data. But even then the alternative is to do it old…

You don't need to keep it connected. Disconnect WiFi in settings.

The watch uses Wi-Fi for upload only when it cannot connect to the phone (or when it needs to transfer huge amounts of data, like maps or music). If your phone is nearby - the watch will use Bluetooth connection to the phone for uploads.
