No Distance With HRM Pro and Fenix 8

I’m having an issue since getting a Fenix 8 where my distance and pace isn’t being recorded properly when doing indoor activities such as padel and cardio when paired with a HRM pro. A indoor padel game gave me a distance of 0.27k rather than the 4-6k I would usually get. It’s like the watch is still trying to use the GPS despite it being turned off.

I’ve had no problems getting distance/pace with the same HRM when paired to a Fenix 7 pro and Tactix Amoled.

On the watch under Connectivity when selecting the HRM, under the HRM Pace and Dist. Use for Pace and Use for Distance and both selected to indoor.

All the other stats from the HRM are where I would expect them to be such as HR and intensity minutes. Is there a setting somewhere I’m missing?

Did you already calibrate the HRM on your Fenix 8, with a few outdoor activities using the GPS?

I haven’t no. I was under the impression the calibration was stored on/with the HRM rather than the watch. I didn’t have to do any calibration when changing to my current 7 pro or the Tactix. I’ve not done any runs with either of those, they both worked straight away for indoor activities without any kind of auto/manual calibration.

The fact it stopped working as soon as I tried tracking activities on the Fenix 8 but still works fine on the Tactix/7 Pro makes me think there might be another setting somewhere that I am missing.

The last time any auto calibration would have happened was last year with an Enduro 3.

Yes, the information is stored on the HRM, but if you get wrong distance, I would try to reset and redo it from the F8 again anyway. I am afraid that besides that, you do not have much other options to try, except of contacting the Support and reporting it to them.

... there is one more thing that you could verify - check the connection type to the HRM, on your F8. If it connects over BT, change it to ANT+. Some of the metrics (including the Running Dynamics, and I suspect it may include the distance and pace data too) is transferred exclusively over ANT+, not over BT!

I’ve checked that and it is on ANT+. I’ve tried re-pairing it and calibrating it again and still nothing. It’s working fine and giving distances on the other watches, just not the Fenix 8 which seems strange.

And did you try recording the activity with the strap alone, without the watch?
