How do I transfer my settings and data from my Fenix 7 to a Fenix 8?

Is there a way to transfer my Fenix 7 settings and data to a Fenix 8?  I can back up my Fenix 7 directly on the watch but don't know how to get this into my Fenix 8.

    Data that has been sync'd to Garmin Connect web will still be there, but all your settings will have to be entered manually - one by one - on your new fenix 8.

    In principle, you can backup your F7 into Garmin connect. Then Restore that backup on the F8.

    It worked for me. Most settings were transferred (custom activity screens, most watch settings, etc...). Some things were not (watch faces, for example, but this is obvious, some settings were reset to their default value).

    The only tricky thing was that there is a bug somewhere (It's Garmin after all). I managed to get it to work in the end, but only if I triggered the backup from the watch itself NOT the connect app (or perhaps it was the other way around. Backup worked in the App, but not the restore, I can't quite remember. But making something on the watch and not the app was the key. It should also work within the app, but didn't the backup didn't appear in the list of backups that you could use). 

    You have to play around a bit, but it works, and saves a lot of time reconfiguring the watch like the previous one.

    I was unable to find any option or setting to get the 7 back up onto the 8. It allowed me to back up my old 7 data to a new 7 (if I bought that instead of an 8).  Other forums confirmed back up only works for identical Garmin device. So I'm not sure how you did it but I'm jealous. Took me a solid 4+ hours to get everything over to my 8. You'd think Garmin wants to be in the business of selling more watches. Not having this as a native feature is kind of mind blowing. Oh well.
