Hike Not recorded properly on my Garmin Finix 8

Hi, I am new to Garmin and recently got my Finix 8, Today was my first hike, and I tried to track it with my Finix 8, I was very disappointed with the way it tracked it; many parameters recorded were wrong, including the duration of the hike , the route etc. What mistake have I made in the settings? Since I plan to use the watch mainly to track my hikes this feature is very important for me. Can someone guide me, pls. thanks

    Hard to tell when you do not post a link to the activity, and do not tell us what exactly was wrong. However, if you tell the duration was wrong too…

    Hard to tell when you do not post a link to the activity, and do not tell us what exactly was wrong. However, if you tell the duration was wrong too, then I see basically three possibilities:

    • You did not start or stop the activity correctly (though you would probably know it)
    • The Auto-Pause option is enabled in the settings of the Hike activity profile
    • The watch crashed and rebooted during the hike, and then was not immediately restarted

    Again, it is impossible to tell which of the three possibilities apply in your case, without seeing the data.

    thanks for your reply 

    I did try to upload a screen shot but it gave me errors many times so I gave up. 

    1) I hiked for a total of 7.5 Km and recorded distance is only 0.7 Km. 

    2) total recorded time is only 13 m  with pace of 17.5 hr/km 

    3) while the elevation is shown correctly at 550M 

    4) auto-Pause option was enabled. 

    5) I did start at the time we started the climb, but I stopped it 15-20 min later than we finished. Through the journey I was monitoring the watch and it did give wired readings including time elapsed (don't know why) - we stopped for water after abt 45 min and it was showing 3 min of walking time.

    The Garmin link is set to private. You'll need to make it public, at least temporarily so that we can view it.

    Open the activity. Click the padlock icon, select "Everyone."

    The auto-pause is a train-wreck for the Hike Activity.  You have to set this to a manual value (less than >=1 is perhaps the best), or disable it, or use the Walk Activity instead.

    I also found this out the hard way, figuring the Auto Pause would work the same on Hike as does on Walk, but not-so-much, by default it requires a speed of >= 3 (MPH in my case, not sure if it's the same for KPH) for it to start recording once it registers a stop.

    I had a chat with Support a few weeks ago about this, and they were also surprised that this didn't work as-expected.  They ended up filing a bug on their side, so who knows...

    thanks,  It worked with AUTO-pause turned off. I went on a short walk/hike to test it - and it has done proper recording.
