Fenix 8, Golf Activity, stopped auto detecting shots

Since the last few updates, when I play golf my watch has stopped detecting my shots. I don’t use the club sensors but for the past 4 years (Fenix 6 before my Fenix Sunglasses it auto detected when I took a shot and measured the distance to my next shot. The Fenix 8 also detected if my ball missed the fairway left, right or hit the fairway, this has also stopped.

It must be an issue with software or the watch as sometimes it works. Sometimes it will start working after 12 holes. Sometimes never at all.

I’m looking at improving my golf so using the stats and tracking is important to my improvement.

Has anyone else had this issue and managed to fix it.

  • Update June 19, 2025:

Thank you for reaching out to us and we apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused. We are currently investigating to figure out what caused this issue so that we can get it resolved more permanently. We have had some success in the meantime getting users to be able to work around the issue with the steps below.

    1. Start a round of golf while at the course, on hole 1.
    2. As soon as the hole is displaying on the watch, press the top left button, and select power off.
    3. Press the top left button again to power the watch back on.  After a few moments, the watch will prompt the option to resume, save, or discard the round in-progress.
    4. Select resume the round in progress and AutoShot should work as expected throughout the round.

We recognize the above steps are not ideal, and don't consider that to be an acceptable fix, but a temporary work around so that you can record your data until we're able to get a fix in place.
