Cycling power doesn't work on Fenix but on Edge it works perfectly!

On my Fenix 8 the Cycling power meter doesn't work (it disconnects all the time from from the watch)

BUT

at the same time, the same Cycling power meter works perfectly with Edge 840

Do you happen to have the same problem?

  • Can’t say I’ve tested it with my edge, but I did try to run DSW from the Fenix 8 to my Tacx trainer for control and my vector 3’s for power and would get fairly regular stutters where it would disconnect and reconnect instantly quite regularly increasing the resistance for that tiny period the feeling was quite off putting.

I tried a few other things but my Fenix is now just a backup fit file and my laptop connects to everything with no problem.

I feel like ANT+ is my problem. I wanted the full cycling dynamics to refer back to which is only available on ant+ I use BLE on anything not Fenix and it’s rock solid.

  • I used my F8 for cycling for the first time in a while as I forgot my EDGE 1050. This is what I recorded on the F8 and it resulted in an average power about 25-30% below what it should have been. EDGE data is always spot on.

  • There is something to it. I always read riding data simultaneously on Wahoo Roam V2 and Fenix 8 MIP. They both read power from Sram AXS power meter and Garmin avg power is ALWAYS far less than Wahoo reads... I upload data to Strava from Fenix so I always have this data not correct...:/

  • Hmm...I ride with an Ege 1030 and my Fenix 8 and save both rides when I'm done. My strategy was to keep what looked like the more accurate looking activity and delete the other, but they are essentially identical every time and I keep the Fenix's ride. Here's an interesting observation from using both devices simultaneously: Both activities upload to GC and Strava. Interestingly, on Garmin connect and on the Fenix 8, it's smart enough not to double count them for my Acute Load. As soon as I delete the Edge file, the only thing that changes is that there aren't 2 rides.
