[BUG] Can't add installed datafields to Activity 15.31

This bug was reported earlier, but it's present in the Production Release too, so here is the new video demonstrating it.

Please note that EatMyRide Simple Planner isn't installed any more, but it's still displayed as available datafield still.

I'm trying to select Stryd but it selects Temeprature record instead, and if I try to select Temperature it will select Infos System...

Overall, Connect IQ fields sometimes reset to timer for no reason and swapped, there was such problem on older Fenix devices too. Sometimes you can see the whole list if clone the activity, reset it and try to add datafields there(Check screenshot below).

I already did full reset with restore from backup but it didn't help much. I may try to do a full reset again to see if this could solve some of the bugs, but I'll have to waste a lot of time setting back the watch.

do you need any data from me before I reset the watch?

forums.garmin.com/.../can-t-add-connect-iq-data-fields-through-gcm

  • Small additional info. After rebooting the watch I can see this datascreens, there are several which are were corrupted and invisible, if I click edit I'll see them without names, it happened to me before many times.

  • i've encountered something similar with both my Fenix 8, and prior Forerunner 955. i have found that i can add Connect IQ data fields on the watch itself, so that's what i've gotten used to doing. (i'm only on FW13.35, however)

  • Hello. I am sorry to hear you are having this issue. I would love to help investigate this further. For this, I will reach out to you via Private Message.

  • @Garmin-Laurie   you should reply/reach out to the original poster! i was just suggesting that i was able to solve the issue on the older FW13.35. it's not clear that solution would work for them with 15.31 (which has it's other major issues which have kept me from upgrading)

  • Hey, today I've actually done a full reset without restoringn from backup, and it didn't help(not fully it at least), now when I was adding Stryd it was adding nothing but I can see blank datascreen when clicked edit and could delete it.

What I did in the end is uninstalling all my programs and datafields and adding them. At least after this I was able to add single datafield, I'm going to add the rest and see if it works.

Regarding adding from the watch, it didn't work for me all the time. For example I couldn't see a half of my datafields still, but I could make missing datafields to appear by first adding Solar, then getting back to main activity's screen and then going back to editing datascreens then I could see Windfield and SimplePlanner for example.

Still, my ConnectIQ datafields were replaced sometimes for no reason on Fenix 6 and Fenix 8.

Check the video if you're curious

  • Hi Garmin-Laurie, just saw your message, I'll get back to you and provide the details. But as you can see I've kinda solved it at least for one activity. I'm going to try and add all datafields I need and see if it will work or not.

  • Hello. There must be a relationship in these errors that causes CIQ data fields to not be added. As for Stryd itself, it works fine on my Fenix 8 in the data screens settings. However, from the beginning I have not used Garmin Connect to set data screens and fields, I always do it on the watch. And I did the same with Epix Gen 2. Currently I use 5 third party data fields - ActiveLook for Engo 2 goggles, Form Swim for Smart 2 swimming goggles, Stryd with Next Gen capsule (single, I do not have Duo), catcher Car for WIngs for Life app and data field for capturing muscle oxygen saturation of SMo2 sensor - Humon Hex. I have used and set Engo 2, Stryd, Humon Hex or Engo with Hex and WFL (Wings for Life) field at the same time and these fields work correctly every time. But I would like to point out that I never use the Garmin Connect setting, but always from the watch position.

  • As for Stryd itself, it works fine on my Fenix 8 in the data screens settings

it's not Stryd itself, other fields follow the same behavior. I showed Stryd simply because it's the most important one for me.

I had issues prior to that and prior Garmin introduced management of fields through GCM. I'm not 100% sure, but I have a feeling that sometimes issues with disappearing or fields getting replaced with another datafield after installing another app from CIQ.

  • Hello,

In the settings of the CIQ data fields between the watch and the Garmin Connect there is a delayed synchronization, which does not always exist. Furthermore, it is possible to select 4 data fields of which only 3 are active. The problem lies in the compatibility of certain CIQ data fields in the interaction.

If this is not displayed when selecting and creating a CIQ data field, I can only say that I first create a data field with time myself and save it, then I go back to the data field with the time and replace it with a CIQ data field.

  • I'm posting this as it could be useful to someonoe. After Resetting to Defaults things got even more messy, right now I experience what issues described below in Trail Run activity. I've two datafields installed on my watch, but I see only one in Run or Walk activties, if I want to go to Trail Run, I see all the datafields I ever installed there, even those which I uninstall. Installing and uninstalling doesn't do anything. If I try to select any of them(whenever installed or not) the watch is rebooting. All screenshots below are done at the same time

1.Connect IQ fields at Trail Run activity, 2. Connect IQ installed datafields, 3. watch rebooting after I've tried to add datafield at trail run; 4. Run activity.

If I'm using Garmin Express I see all apps listed twice

So the summary, don't try to reset the watch, it makes things even worse, previously I had bugs but they were more isolated and at least they didn't reboot the watch...

After watch reboots my Race calendar become empty(prior to this it had only 2 random events instead of 5).
