Off course alerts. Very delayed…

My old Fenix’ (3HR, 5, 6x,7x) all notified you pretty quickly that you were off course. I noticed the 8 goes about .05 miles before it alerts you. Seems dangerous if in an unknown area. Plus the data screen with the big blue arrow is gone too.

Garmin needs to address this or give us an option to adjust how quickly the off course alerts kick in. Such an indispensable feature of my old Fenix’

  • I believe the "on course" area has been widened a bit to avoid false alerts in case of temporary loss of accuracy on the GPS track.
I guess it's a tricky compromise to set in order not to trigger false alerts. On my watch though, off course alerts happen seem to trigger much earlier than on yours. I would say as soon as I am about 50 meters off track.

  • I am finding that the when on course the alert to say turn left or right now always happens about 5-10 metres AFTER the turn....

  • indeed, they could do that to avoid false alerts but in fact I didn't have much on Fenix 6 but going off-route all the time with Fenix 8 because it alerts me way too late especially on trail, so I have to figure out where things went wrong and find the right path.
