Fenix 8 - anyone happy with his watch?

As usual, the majority of people posting in these forums are people who encounter issues with their product.

My simple but serious question: are there also people who love their Fenix 8 amoled or solar? And why?

Anyone with no issues at all?

Cause I am thinking of buying a Fenix 8, but I am hesitant...

I have a perfect functioning Fenix 7X Pro Sapphire wich I keep on software versionn17.28

  • sound like a kindred spirit. I am a big fan of Big Easy (and the newer Big Easy IQ) which were made by the same developer. current careful testing suggests they are as good as the best stock faces (analog are the only ones who seem battery efficient) and another great Connect IQ (Segment 34 mk2).

I'm curious: what other watch faces have you found to be battery efficient?

Aside: I too am close to converging on a watch face (the ones noted above) which would allow me to charge once a week at 20% or more capacity, even with my 6 hours of GPS activity (SatIQ) and 3 hours of strength training. (using AOD during waking Horus) that's pretty close to what I was getting out of my Forerunner 955.

  • I’ve had the watch since release and similar to others, the early days were fraught with bugs. But fairly quickly things got better and now running the public betas I’m super happy with it.

im not one to be bothered by having lots of watch face options, I have a basic/smart analogue setup with battery, steps and notifications and use the watch as intended for activity/fitness tracking, and for that it does a great job.

I have the AMOLED with always on enabled and it’s the way forward, no issue charging around once a week over breakfast.

  • No, how? There's only 1 analog watchface from the 7 pro. And there's one from the fenix 7.

The Epix 2 WF were great for example. The Fenix 7 pro digital watchfaces also looked good, especially the ones with the radial seconds.

  • I like and use this one, the unnamed one from the Epix Pro that Garmin added in an update last year.

it looks orange, but I’ve set it to gold. Nice and simple.

in terms of how, did you mean relating to the public betas?

  • @T-bone, I am Fenix 8 amoled user since day one. Seriously, although I am really happy to see people answering to this post with no issues at all, I can never say the same. If you ask me, I've never done a more serious mistake than giving away my Fenix 7x to buy the Fenix 8... I am fighting with bugs since I bought this thing. It is a nightmare, at least for me. It depends how and for what you are using the watch for. If you plan to stay simple with it and have a fancy new upgrade, that is ok. Practically my opinion is that this is far worse than my Fenix 7X. The impression is like an alpha unit, thrown in the market too early. Check the forum for all the issues that other guys have, and seriously, check the fixes so far in the history of every firmware. We are talking over 400 fixes since the watch come to the market, and they still fixing...

  • I realise I may be asking a stupid question, but with the latest version installed, have you taken the plunge and done a full factory set and starting again?

I’ve definitely had plenty of bugs but nothing currently that is noticeable.

  • interesting. I have a very similar watch fact like this on my F8 but doesn't have the background contours around the perimeter. I think I like it plain, but curious if this is a different watch face that I have stock on my watch or if there is another setting that toggles that perimeter background on or off.

  • Interesting indeed. It is the stock one, I haven’t added any watch faces through connection iq. The contours only really appear when the backlight is on full in full sunlight, you don’t really see them when the display is slightly dimmer.

  • yours is AMOLED, right? I'm going to have to play with my watch face settings for that one at some point. I t may be because I have brightness set to 1/3.

I do like that watch face and Deep Sea because they both are much more battery efficient than the digital ones.

  • Yes, the AMOLED version, and I have my brightness set to full. That could be the difference. It does also look great without the contour pattern being so prominent.
