Sapphire durability experiences?

What are your experiences with the sapphire glass on the Fenix 8? Have you gotten any scratches, or is the glass holding up well?

I'm specifically asking those of you who really use the watch in tough conditions – not just office wearers. I've read some reports that a few Fenix 8 users have noticed scratches on the sapphire glass, and that previous models might’ve had better quality in that regard.

So, what’s your take?
Do you think an extra screen protector is actually useful, or just overkill?

  • I don't have any scratches on the glass, but the titanium bezel has scratches already! And I get that it's a fitness watch! But it's the only one I wear , and my God as much as it cost you would think Garmin could fix this problem! I've had several Garmins and this seems to always be the process with their watches. I understand it's not  a Rolex, but you pay almost Rolex prices for a watch that scratches withing a few weeks. I love the Garmin Fenix! But damn can't they fix this one problem?? Most people have the same argument when I read these forums . Come on Garmin!!!

  • I've used screen protectors on all my (non-sapphire) Garmin watches, with no problems.

  • Sapphire itself is hard to get scratches. But the coating is not. Also, the coating is easy to get damaged from chemical substances such as alcohol (I got smudges in the screen due to using alcohol to clean the watch).
