Sapphire durability experiences?

What are your experiences with the sapphire glass on the Fenix 8? Have you gotten any scratches, or is the glass holding up well?

I'm specifically asking those of you who really use the watch in tough conditions – not just office wearers. I've read some reports that a few Fenix 8 users have noticed scratches on the sapphire glass, and that previous models might’ve had better quality in that regard.

So, what’s your take?
Do you think an extra screen protector is actually useful, or just overkill?

  • I have one of the soft gel-like protectors on mine rather than the stiff plastic ones.

I have been using them for the last 3 or 4 years without any issues ,you've got to ensure there's no air bubbles when it's going on but once it's on its a perfect fit and you don't really know it's on.

Doesn't affect the touchscreen in anyway and as I said previously the screen is in perfect condition when I come to sell the watch.

  • Which film do you have on there exactly?

  • I'll test it without a screen protector for a few days.
If I notice any advantages that way, I’ll just keep it like that.
Otherwise, I might give a protector a try.

I’ve also been thinking about trying a slightly matte one to reduce glare a bit.

  • Evmshop on eBay,I find them really good

  • Mine is a slight matte finish.

  • I have not found that. It may not be available in Germany for all I care.

  • doesn´t matter if it is sapphire glass or not , i saw many of them with scratches already.

for me the biggest benefit of having hydrogel foil on sapphire glass is less "foggy" screen look.

much better visibility inside and outside as well.

  • I had the Fenix 5 for many years up to late last week where the screen finally went blank besides everything else still working. I had one of those gel-like screen protectors on it the entire time, which had dints and light scratches. I peeled it off before removing the face to see if I had a snowball's chance in *** of getting the display operating again. There wasn't a scratch on the display. I could not find an issue I could fix easily like reseating the ribbon cable. That thing is very fine pitch.

A still perfect surface despite it taking direct hits with hockey pucks, smushed by rocks while landscaping and working gardens, getting very dirty while MTB with a few wrecks, and some wrecks while skiing. It was the main reason I went for the Fenix 8 to replace it since it served me astonishingly well. It is worth it to me to spend the $$$ for something that will last as long as the Fenix 5 did.

Very happy with the 8 so far, especially the speed at which it grabs GPS now, and how much more sensitive it is to signal. I am probably going to put a protector on again, I still have some gel ones left from the 5 I never used.

  • Fenix 3, 5, 6,7, 8 & Marq2 all sapphire never had a protector, no scratches and never had a visibility problem Shrug‍♂️
