lowest powered AOD watch face?

I find it surprising that none of the built in watch faces (outside of sleep mode and battery saver) can be stripped down to be just time when AOD is selected.

I wonder if anyone has done any testing to see which faces are the lowest power consumers yet still provide time at a glance.

lots of Connect IQ faces have this option, and I wonder if those, in such a mode would exceed the efficiency of the built in faces which don't seem to have the option to show zero complications in the AOD, but no gesture, state.

then again, I also wonder how much battery savings there is in turning off all complications except having a large central time showing for a Connect IQ face. I've already seen my long time favorite, Big Easy, showing all complications, should give about 10-11 day smart watch performance (all extrapolated with limited data) with all files being shown. if the saving is negligle, I'm not sure there would be any point in turning of the complications/other fields.

anyway, not sure if any one out had collected enough data/info to comment, but I'd appreciate hearing experiences from the community. thanks!

  • I agree with you. The stock watch faces use too many pixels in low power mode. They should add a mode similar to the sleep mode.

I alternate between Chariot J-Shock and Chariot Oxygen, which have a very simple low power mode showing time, date, day, and battery level. The numbers also move around the screen every minute or so to prevent burn-in.

Consistently get about 10 days in AOD mode on my Fenix 8 AMOLED 47mm. This is with about 5-6 activitys and smart notifications on

  • thanks for sharing this. I may have to check those out. with Big Easy in its default (showing everything) I am seeing about 8 days with 6 hours GPS activity (Sat IQ) + 3 hours indoor activities. so not bad. I like to charge at 20% or higher so that means charging every 6 days or so which isn't so bad. that's a couple of days less than my 955 Solar. my schedule is pretty flexible these days, but I think I would love the rhythm of a once a week charge (same day/time) just for consistency sake. but obviously, not a huge deal.

I think the "battery saver watch face" would be a great option for some of the digital watch faces. I'm again surprised that Garmin went away from having the simple large digital watch face with battery and date that they have had on all of the watches I've owned from them prior to the Fenix 8.
