Can you recommand switching to Fenix 8 ?

Hello Dear Fenix 8 owners!

Can you recommand switching to Fenix 8 from Fenix 7 Pro, for a enthusiast?

My F7Pro Sapphire Solar works pretty well, no issues.

Is that also the case for Fenix 8 right now?

I'm considering switching because I would love to have assistant, diving sensors and route recalculating.

But are those new features working as they sopose to do?

Is the microphone assistant working well? In german? has somebody experiance in using it in german?

Thanks alot for your feedback and experience exchange!

Cheers

Justice

  • I've been with Garmin since the 310XT, I've never really looked at Suunto. Do they have comparable maps to Garmin for hiking? I don't use the onboard routing but I do use the course feature where it overlays your route on the map on the watch. If Suunto has this then I'll take a proper look in to their range.

  • Suunto Race S - it has no on board music but can control music  - ive never understood the need to be out without a phone.  just have it in your pocket/backpack

  • Absolutely you can do this - I routinely mark up a route then export it as a GPX to the Suunto......

I think your contributions are great. The right words. You could have studied psychology. It helps me to see the whole thing in a more relaxed way. Thank you

During a run? No phones for me then. Apple Watch (Ultra) rules here.

Suunto Race looks great, but no music is a big miss to me.

  • No, Maybe, No, and No. I just turned the stuff on I wanted on, and off the stuff I didn't want. (Like I only have the 02 sensor on during sleep,) I use all GPS sources, always on screen, (it dims but doesn't go black) Could care less about battery saver mode, (I have a charger and 12 days of battery. So far no problem.) and if I palm my screen it dims or cancels the app I'm in and goes to dim main screen.

If what you mean by sleep watch face is the fact that it turns off during my sleep times, then yes, I use that... and it works fine.

I guess now that I think about it, the only thing that doesn't work "as I expected" is nap time. The literature is vague, but I think you have to actually TELL it you are going to take a nap, in lieu of it sensing a nap. I don't like that.

  • Moderator removed my reply. Don't switch to F8, as you will be constantly reporting bugs to support.

  • I think it's best to wait until they iron out the firmware, the Fenix 7 pro is more reliable and really barely any different.

Even then, it's a question of spending the extra on a watch with buggy firmware/software and also that Garmin are locking features behind a subscription service now.

Personally I wish I had kept my Epix Gen 2 and waited another year to two to see if Garmin became more customer focused or not, see how the whole subscription thing pans out and then just look elsewhere like Sunnto etc if it's not looking good.
