Touch becomes unresponsive after re-enabling using shortcut

Using Fenix 8 51mm AMOLED.

I have the Start (top right) + Up (middle left) buttons as a shortcut to enable/disable touch input. Before hopping in the shower, I use this shortcut to disable touch to prevent water from registering false input on the watch. After the shower, I use the eject water function to remove any excess water from the speaker. Will do this 2-3 times even.

If I do not re-enable touch right away and forget about it for a while, then try to use the shortcut to enable touch later, it APPEARS to re-enable as indicated by the animations and icons in the menu, but touch input doesn’t actually register on the watch. No amount of enabling/disabling using the shortcut or menu or controls will have an impact. The toggles/icons change to indicate it SHOULD work, but ultimately I have to restart the watch to make touch input work again.

Yes, touchscreen is not active right away, even though the animation says it is.
After you enable touchscreen with the shortcut, try flipping your watch to switch the display off and back on.
This is how I do it. (BTW, I don't have "always on" active, don't know if it will work with display "always on")

Same problem here as you describe. If I am enabling/disabling in between 5 or 10min it's fine but after a longer period it doesn't work. It's just possible to use the touch screen after a restart of the watch.

Hi, thanks but this isn't the issue I am describing. This issue does not happen on the MIP/Solar version of the Fenix 8, nor does it happen on the Descent MK3i. It's a bug with the Fenix 8 AMOLED, seemingly confirmed by others in this thread.

I tried disable touch by the short cut, went to water eject a few times, and then wait for a few minutes before enabling the touch. If I do try touch right away after enabling the touch, it's not responding. If I wait for a few seconds before using the touch, to be exact 8 sec for the watch face to go black, then I activated the screen by button, then the touch is working again. If wait longer than my screen time out, I touch the screen, the watch face came back and the touch is working fine. I don't have to restart my watch. Mine is working fine. It seems that the watch CPU is slow in processing.

I have also had similar non-responsive touchscreen issues. I haven't yet been able to pin down exactly when/why it happens.

There is clearly an issue with touch input on the AMOLED version of the Fenix 8. As someone who had both the AMOLED and MIP versions, I confirm this doesn't happen on the MIP version. Here's another thread describing similar issues with touch input not working:

This is a software bug i think.
If i use the shortcut, i once have to turn the display off to have an effect.

I have this exact problem you described as well on 13.35

After a reboot the functionality seems fine, but a few sleeps and workouts later this problem presents itself
