Fenix 8 Solar

Fenix 8 Solar is having the same reboot issue and my Garmin is 100% UNUSEABLE. This is completely unacceptable coming from Garmin, 1200$ device and I can't use it for its intended purpose. When is this going to be fixed? Are we going to get new devices? What is the issue? Why can't this be fixed?

  • Start a chat with Garmin Support and have them submit a bug report.  Then roll back to version 12.35 software.  A downloadable version with instructions can be found in the Beta Forums here:  https://forums.garmin.com/beta-program/fenix-8-series/f/announcements/398518/beta-version-13-12---check-for-updates-only Scroll down towards the bottom of the page to find the instructions on how to roll back, and the downloadable files.  You will need to connect to Garmin Express on your computer to move the files over to your Garmin watch, then follow the instructions in the link.  It sounds daunting but it isn't

And when you are in the chat with Garmin support make sure you tell them how disappointed you are that they rolled out this software without testing on Fenix 8 Solar first.

  • I'm new to Garmin, and spent an entire day setting fenix8 up to figure it out.  Thank you for confirming there is a real back button issue and not just me...It crazy every time I look to see what time it is, there's the quick list of functions, no time.  Pressing the back button works about half the time.  When the back button was not working, I tried the voice command feature, but that just gave me clock settings.

The first morning I woke up and it was "lapping" all by itself. Took it on a hike the same day following an out and back trail and it just started "lapping" for 1 or 3 second intervals repeatedly. I was not touching any buttons.  I could not shut it off until lap 41.  Came back and YouTube'd how to turn off auto lap feature.

I'm trying hard to like this new watch, but I feel like I've gone way backwards from apple reliability ..."can you hear me now?"

  • It sounds like your watch thinks buttons are pressed when they are not. I would suggest trying a button calibration.

The following steps will allow you to calibrate the buttons of your watch and possibly resolve the button issue you are experiencing.

      1. Plug your watch into a Windows PC or a Mac that has the ability to read MTP devices (a third party program may be needed for your Mac to see the watch as a drive).
      2. Locate the drive for your watch on the computer, and open the drive.
      3. Place the KEY_CALIBRATION.BIN file in the Internal Storage of your watch. It should not be placed in a subfolder.
      4. Disconnect your watch from the computer.

The watch will go to a button calibration screen. Press each button fully a couple times. A green check will appear when the button is calibrated.

After calibration has completed, turn off touch on your watch, and test the buttons to ensure they are working.

"KEY_CALIBRATION.BIN" can be an empty file, it just needs this filename.

If after this you still have problems you'll need to have your watch replaced.
