Solar (MIP) version backlight brightness setting

Hey there,

Long time Garmin AMOLED user here (Epix 2, Marq 2).

Just got my Garmin Fenix 8 Solar 51mm. I knew that the display in less ideal ambient lighting conditions do not compare to AMOLED hence I have a question regarding the backlight brightness setting and power consumption.

I see many people just using 5% setting for the backlight brightness, but at least for me that's a bit too dim.

I'm using the gesture mode with 20% setting and this is pretty good.

How big impact does the backlight brightness have for the overall power consumption or the watch?

Thanks!

  • Hello ,
I have tried several settings in the range of 5-30% screen brightness, with a display time of 15-30 sec.

I do not notice a significant difference .

More important, it seems to me, is using a watch face that will use less battery.

... there are some faces that really use a lot of battery .

I am convinced that you can safely use the settings - 20% brightness, with a backlight time of 15-30 sec. . the watch will turn off after turning your wrist anyway .

I'm using the Endurance stock watch face. During 8:00 - 17:00 I lost 2% of battery.

Last night between 22:00-08:00 with Pulse Ox ON I lost 5% (no sleep watch face).
