My Fenix 8 not recording speed/distance

My Fenix 8 has stopped recording speed/distance in bike mode in the last week. I can record in run mode and change activity to bike and it records fine, also records walks fine. I have tried:

  • Factory reset (it booted back up in Russian)!!
Changed to every second data recording
    Removed GSC 10 & unpaired
    Reloaded Garmin Connect
    Tuned on/off numerous times
  • Googled, looking for similar issues

This issue started around the time of the global outage, is it related, as I hadn't changed any settings prior? Is there something else I haven't tried??
Any help gratefully accepted.

  • I'd check the list of sensors, and remove any that you do not use or recognize, and I would also disable the option "Auto Discover". It could be that the watch automatically connected a speed sensor that was accidentally nearby when you started an activity, and then was no more available, hence not delivering any speed and distance data.

If you post a link to the concerned activity, we can perhaps help you better. Open the activity in Garmin Connect Web, make it visible to Everyone (see the padlock icon in the top right corner of the page), and post here the URL from the address line of the browser.

  • A user of my app, which works well on Fenix 7, is reporting the same. The recording stopped and speed and distance were not recorded.

    No solution yet.

  • Clutching at straws but you could try changing a load of settings in bike mode, starting a bike activity then stopping it and changing all settings back. It could be something has corrupted in storage and toggling options will force the watch to re-write the data to that location, then when it goes to record it has everything it needs in order to start tracking your bike activity. It then won't just be throwing log errors in the background and not using your gps data to calculate or record speed/distance hopefully.

  • I have resolved the issue, basically as you say, by changing settings in bike mode one at a time and then adding back speed/cadence sensor and auto pause. I have no idea how some of the settings have changed, because I found settings I never knew existed. Took a week and much messing about and riding round the block to finally resolve it. :-)
