Walk auto detect

Is there an option my fenix 8 to automatically detect walk activity? Is not happening right now and its unacceptable. I have a fenix 8 51 solar. All fitness smartwatches even much cheaper have this feature by default.

    No. Only „move IQ“.

    What is Garmin Move IQ?

  • If you specifically wanted that feature then it would have been better had you done some research beforehand. Automatic activity starting has not been a feature of most of Garmin's watches, ever.

If truly "unacceptable," then you should return your watch and buy one that has the feature you want.

    HTH

  • For the cost of the watch and its upgraded features and nature its really unacceptable… what is not clear in that?  I put the issue to the discussion in order to be considered  by Garmin since is not “upgraded” or fixed in the last watch or firmware. Answers like this dont help and keep Garmin not fixing simple software issues….  I am not returning the watch on this but i will keep pressing till it will be fixed.

  • I knew that my previous garmin didnt include this on the features, but because is just a software trigger i was hopping Garmin to include this in the new watch firmware. Its a convenient feature for a watch that never leave my wrist. Need to be included in future software  dont you think?

  • The feature Auto Activity Start is available only on select low-end Venu and Vivo models. The reason si simple - multisport watches like the Fenix support around 200 of different sports, and many of them generate the same moving patterns like walking or running, so there is no way the more advanced multisport watches could reliably support this feature. Besides that, the auto-start function needs between 1 to 15 minutes to detect the moving pattern, and only then the logging starts. While at the low end watches it is not a big issue, athletes used to log their activities very accurately, would be very unhappy if their activities were starting with a delay.

If you want Garmin to add such functionality anyway, despite the mentioned disadvantages, then I recommend suggesting it to Garmin at Share Ideas | Garmin. If the feature is massively demanded, there is perhaps a chance Garmin adds it as an option. Though personally, I doubt it will happen, because most people prefer starting their activities manually anyway.

It is not a software issue, as said, it is intentional behavior and in Fenix line it was always like this.
Next time, check details about thing you buy not assume something.
And price has nothing to do with functions build in.
