How much do you miss the MIP display?

I have a fenix 7s pro and love it - with my small wrists I couldn't keep a MIP display if I wanted to upgrade to the fenix 8 one day.

  • How much to those of you with the AMOLED fenix 8 miss the MIP from earlier watches?
  • Is always on suitable or does it drain too much energy?
  • do gestures work also when lazy on the couch? (I can see my watch in normal lighting without background light)

Thank you for your feedback! Slight smile

  • Hello!

The question is not really for me, but like everyone else - I was faced with a choice - MIP or AMOLED. At first, I wanted to go only for AMOLED - because of the colors and everything. But when I thought about it - I chose MIP - one, because the battery life is very important, and two - I don't look at this watch all the time, like a phone - so this AMOLED wouldn't make much sense in practice, and two - in strong sunlight, unfortunately, it's hard to see and the battery will drain before your eyes. So, I have 51mm MIP and I'm very happy with the choice.

  • I’ve had both MIPs and OLEDs. In my 40s I find myself preferring the OLED more since my eyes are starting to ‘give up’ (if it makes sense). I had the 7x pro 51 and now got the 8 51 (sapphire both). Sapphire on the MIP is more of a problem than on the OLED since it makes more reflections and is more difficult to read.

The 2 things I miss are: the total darkness of the MIP at night - I do not like something emitting light; and on very sunny day in direct sunlight the MIP is superb.

Battery life (at least for me) the 8 is on pair if not better than the 7x pro (solar model) - keep in mind I do not use AOD but have turn on glance. I use AOD while in activity. So far the 8 has been perfect in battery life: I run ~80-100km per week (everything on auto) and I have around 2-3 weeks of juice (BT and notifications off I only use it to sync and occasionally forget it on).

  • Total darkness at night?  You can set a sleep watch face that only shows time and nothing else and adjust the brightness of the time.  That might do what you're looking for?

  • Yes of course I know it and use it. But still it’s not complete dark (though I must admit it is not as annoying as full brightness watch-face). Maybe I should disable the touch when dnd activates so any touch will not activate it :)

  • A piece of electrical tape works wonders.....

  • Same as staying away from keyboards...
