Connect IQ store purchases?

I’m not sure if this is a Fenix 8 firmware specific issue. Whenever I try to make a purchase for something on the store that requites a payment  the following error  “This app is not available for purchase”

The problem is this is not specific to certain apps but any app that requires payment. I’m wondering if this is our location issue. I am based in South Africa and have Garmin Pat enabled on my device.

  • I have the same issue with a Fenix 8 solar , all my account details are installed

  • I have the same issue based in South Africa in my fenix 8 solar , my account details are corrrect , any suggestions to sort this out?

  • There are some locations where the garmin payment option isn't available.  A friend in SA ran into this back when payments first started.

    See https://developer.garmin.com/connect-iq/monetization/app-sales/

    "Supported Countries for Users"

  • This is great thank you!
i’m really struggling to understand how South  Africa is not one of the supported countries when the list of other supported countries in Africa include:

Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, British Indian Ocean Territory, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, French Southern Territories, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mayotte, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Reunion, Rwanda, Saint Helena, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, State of Libya, Swaziland, United Republic of Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Western Sahara, Zambia, and Zimbabwe

    Mind blowing!

  • I agree , This needs to be sorted out   , I used to buy watch faces before from the developers now this , please sort this out

  • If you use a VPN on your phone to a country where the currency is supported by your bank card then kill and start the CIQ app again you will be allowed to make the purchase. Apps that have purchased will update when the VPN is off.

Incidentally this is also the case for downloading the Amazon Music app which only appears in the CIQ app if you are in the correct countries where Amazon Music is supported but once downloaded and linked to an Amazon account it works worldwide.

  • I can tell you from personal experience that Côte d’Ivoire and Zimbabwe are not, in fact, supported in real life. I am sitting in Abidjan right now and as of 2025-01-06 the CIQ store gives an error for any app that requires purchase unless I use a VPN.

  • Thanks, but not sure howe that is done - Garmin would need to advise what to do as they run the show - if it is Visa or Mastercard and used for Garmin pay it should work?

  • I don’t think Garmin is going to endorse and provide you with instructions for taking steps to bypass their geolocation blocking of CIQ site transactions from various countries.

    Force quit the ConnectIQ app

Acquire a VPN account such as ExpressVPN or NordVPN or Mulvad, etc. Follow the instructions to install the app. Connect to a VPN endpoint in the desired country such as France, UK, USA — wherever is the country you want to pay in.

Now open CIQ app. It will let you set up your CC and pay. If you have wallet set up with the same CC on your watch you can confirm the purchase there.

You can close the VPN connection after you complete the purchase

Alternatively you can do essentially the same steps on your PC or Mac and transfer the app with a USB cable over Garmin Express.

  • Hi Brian, so I tried the VPN and the option to buy a watch face popped up for the forst time. It took me to the Connect app to setup my Garmin Wallet, but I still think the problem persists because you still need to setup a billing address. Or do you just pick a random adress in another country?
