Watch Stops Charging

For some reason the fenix 8 watch will stop charging after a period of time.

It has happened a few times now and today it decided to stop charging once the battery reached 73% charge.

Unplugging and plugging the charging cable into the watch eventually meant that the watch continued charging again and reached 100%.

The problem has occurred with two different charging cables.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

  • Hi Cohen

Yes I have experienced it a couple of times.

It was when charging from a powerbank, and I just thought it was the powerbank that shut the charging off if nearly no power was drawn from it.

    What was your powersource?

Wondering if anyone else can confirm this or have similar observations?

    Best regards

  • Have used a standard USB-A power adapter and a USB-C power adapter and the issue occurred with both. This is only a recent problem.

  • The watch has a pretty small battery 360mAh I think), so only draws a low current to charge. And just like most batteries, the current slows even further to a trickle as the battery gets close to fully charged.

Many powerbanks have cut-off protection at low current levels, to prevent them depleting themselves if left plugged in after fully charging a large device like a phone.

The low current levels as the watch approaches full are probably enough to fall below the powerbank's cut-offs. I find this occurs with several of my power banks, but the watch charges fully if plugged into an AC charger, or a laptop, etc.

  • buy a power bank that has this feature:

    Trickle-Charging Mode

Trickle charging is designed to provide optimized charging to low-power (low-current) devices such as earphones, Bluetooth speakers, and other accessories.

  • Hi Mcalista

Thanks for the information. I didn't know that. That clarifies the issue.

Next charge I will test with a regular old type of AC adapter, and post the result (if I remember it), but it will be next year, due to the amount of days left on the battery :-)

    Best regards

  • I also have this issue. Mine is the Solar edition and seems to happen when the watch sees sunlight. Charge it at night with no light source and it seems to be fine. Maybe a coincidence, but maybe the cause!
