Fenix 8 Solar 51mm firmware 12.35 battery drain

Hi.

I have had Fenix 8 since 4.12, before that I had 7. Since new, the battery went from about 65% to 15.12 went down to 15% and I decided to charge and update the watch today. I exercise every day, about an hour - 4x running with GPS, 3x gym. After charging it fully, from 13 to 18 the watch went from 100% to 95%. Has anyone noticed similar battery consumption at 12.35?

  • Not sure what you are asking about?
So you charged it completely and pulled the cable at 1pm and end up at 6pm with a 5% battery drain down to 95% in even 5 hours?
Would be good to know what you have done within this time frame.

However I updated yesterday as well to 12.35 (OTA) and noticed a bigger drain then with 12.22 (by gut feeling)

  • Sorry, I wrote chaotically.
Aprox 10 days, the battery went down by 4-5% per day. With one training per day, about an hour. But after updating to 12.35, without training in 5 hours, the battery went down by 5%. Today, exactly 24 hours after a full charge and training without GPS - I have 87% left.

  • I got my F8 as well on the 4th of December so my experience with the battery life is somewhat limited as well.
But with 12.22 and no training I lost about 6-8% per day.
I ran my watch with gesture mode (no always on display) oxygen messurement disabled and I am probably guilty when it comes to check my watch more often then usual (I mean come on its new Wink).
For hiking with GPS mode auto,  I mostly got about a 5% drain per hour with 12.22
Not sure what it will be with 12.35 but at least with no training I also think the battery drains a little quicker.

Maybe I will do a master reset at some point to start fresh and clean.

  • My battery life has been much worse on v12.35. I charged my Fenix 8 Solar 51mm to 100% on Thursday, December 12th. After it updated I let it sit on the charger for an hour to make sure it was fully, fully charged.

Right now it's at 58%. Across Friday, Saturday, and Sunday I did less than 2 hours of GPS activity and less than 2 hours of non-GPS activity. We're at roughly 3.5 days since the full charge and 42% depletion, for a total of 12% per day.

That's absolutely embarrassing. Completely ridiculous for a sports watch that's supposed to have 30-48 days of battery life. At this rate, the total estimated battery life is 8.3 days.

  • The same story Bro. I think about downgrade.

  • Did you reset the watch.

IMHO - I think the best way to update the firmware is to turn off auto update, charge the watch prior update and update using Garmin Express.

I believe sometimes, file gets corrupted when sending the update via Bluetooth which requires a reboot or factory reset. Just my opinion.

Also, when you update mid charge, I wonder if the battery calibration is reset in the update which would require the user to recalibrate the battery.

  • Wow so Bad? I think  I will skip this update. Have turned off auto update

  • My battery drains about 3-5% a day, recording 2 hours of training including listening to music costs 8-10%. I have had heavy draining in the beginning too, but with an update of the time-zone software batterylife extended.

  • I have also the same problem with this last firmware 12.35 and F8 Solar 51. Previous firmware was much better, no such battery drain.

  • I did a master reset (via holding down buttons) yesterday and my impression is that the battery consumption is reasonable now and much better then before. But who knows which settings got reverted which might have caused the higher drain.
At least I do not see any major differences in drain compared to 12.22 now.
