Activity while riding in passenger vehicle?

A few times now I've noticed the Fenix 8 alert me about activity while driving (car).

Doing so consistently resets my move alerts, and it also seems to count steps while driving.

Seems like the F8 needs a Vehicle Focus mode or something that disables most physical activity tracking...

If I have that problem, I will prefer more intelligent solution like automatic drive or ride resolving or something like that.

Steps and Move IQ activities are based on the movement of the watch on your wrist. Step and Move IQ activities are triggered by motion. The movement of the watch can trigger both of these events through vibration while driving. The steps and activities triggered while driving should be small which should not be an issue for most.

If, however, the user is OCD or drives on a particularly rough road, steps and Move IQ events can be annoying.

There are solutions to avoid instances of inadvertent steps or Move IQ in the current software. There is no need to further complicate the software for something that is negligible tor most users.

This is simply not true. A Vehicle Focus would be like Sleep Focus, it would be automatic. My phone knows when I get in the car... it will notify how far to X or to Home depending on whether I'm out and about or not. The Garmin app could pick up on this and then put the watch into the focus.

This isn't some super complicated ask either, both smartphone SDKs have interfaces to detect these behaviors that are predictable and robust. I don't see why you're so adamantly arguing against making progress here.

"MoveIQ" is simply not useful if the user has to babysit it... watches a fraction of the cost of the F8 do not have this problem. Solving it app-side will fix this for all devices Garmin bakes Vehicle Focus into as well.

Good points.

Just not sure how high that change will get on the list.

Maybe a developer can create a Connect IQ focus?
