Touch screen not working after waking up from nightly sleep mode

My Fenix 8 goes to power saving and sleep mode from 12 midnight to 7.30am the next day.

During sleep mode touch is disabled.

When the watch wakes up to normal mode, the tap to turn on display no longer works, and I have to manually disable and re-enable the touch screen for it to work again.

Anyone else experiencing this? Can it be fixed?

  • As posted elsewhere:

So..morning update (CET/Europe time ..) I left my Fenix 8 with the touchscreen unresponsive after manually disabling the sleep mode (it had activated while I was still using the watch at 11 PM). This morning, as scheduled, it disable the sleep mode by itself per program at 7:30, and surprisingly, the touchscreen was functioning again! It seems there's a code issue (bug) causing interference with the touchscreen when sleep mode is manually enabled or disabled. To restore the feature immediately (if don't want to wait or change the program/hours), I have to reboot the watch. That's all for now!

  • I think you are 100% right. Interestingly enough, once touch gets disabled no amount of toggling the touch settings, Focus modes, etc. helps. Reboot/soft reset don't seem to work consistently either. The touch comes back seemingly by itself when the watch randomly decides it's no longer in the scheduled sleep mode.

Have been using F8 since August. The issue only started happening (and pretty consistently) with the installation of v.13.35.

  • This is annoying coming from my 7 that was much more "mature"...I hope this will be fixed soon.

  • Interesting.  My touch has been working perfectly regardless of sleep mode.  The only thing we found there might be a bug, is turning on/off using the Control wheel or Sleep Score option.  The night watch face stays on when turning off the sleep mode.  My touch is always working.

  • Nothing wrong with it now, works fine.

Maybe you have a faulty watch.

  • Yes indeed - some people experience this, others the "touch issue" only, a few ..both. The root must be the same bug in the sleep routine.

  • Update March 20, 2025:

Our engineers are aware that when sleep mode is ended, and you are presented with the Morning report the touch screen will not respond until buttons are pressed. They are indicating this is not a software bug. This is working as expected to keep the AMOLED display disabled until you are ready to use it outside of sleep.

Since many have expressed the desire to change this, they are looking at potentially disabling this effect. This would be changed with a future software update. However there is not a set time frame on this change. I will post again, once there are further updates.

However, if you are having trouble with the touchscreen responding after sleep, even when buttons are pressed. For example, needing to toggle the touchscreen or powercycle the watch, this is something our engineers would like to investigate further. For this, please feel free to reach out to me via Private Message.

  • Thanks, I resolved (workaround) by setting (during Sleep) the touch ON for Maps only (not sure how it is in the English menu).

  • I got the touchscreen not working bug again (after a fresh factory reset and not restoring a backup) on the weights screen. I suspect it was because the touchscreen was disabled before starting the activity. After starting it I realised I couldn't use touch to enter the weight and reps so enabled touch (the screen confirms with the 'Touchscreen Auto' message and buzz) but the touchscreen still didn't work. I had to use the buttons to enter the data which was a pain. :/

bleurgh, this watch is so buggy.

  • Sorry to have to ask but how? On the mobile web here nothing I tap on shows me DM for you, tapping your name goes to a blank page, and my touch has not worked at all since the last update, unless I reconfigure multiple menus every morning
