Touch screen not working after waking up from nightly sleep mode

My Fenix 8 goes to power saving and sleep mode from 12 midnight to 7.30am the next day.

During sleep mode touch is disabled.

When the watch wakes up to normal mode, the tap to turn on display no longer works, and I have to manually disable and re-enable the touch screen for it to work again.

Anyone else experiencing this? Can it be fixed?

Mine does it randomly,what I have noticed is if you bring it out of sleep mode yourself in a morning rather than waiting for the watch to do it at the preset time ,it doesn't do it.

2/23/25… this is still an issue. After the most recent update my watch started doing this very thing. Prior to the update it did NOT do this. My work around is, after I wake up, I have to go in and manually…

This goes beyond “Morning Reports” as I have it disabled.

Steps to recreate bug:

1. Set Touch: Off

2. Watch (automatically) goes in and out of sleep mode (no morning report, it’s disabled)

3. Touch setting will display “Touch: Off”

But despite trying to turn it back on, the touch functionality still doesn’t work. A forced restart is required.

Also, why are “Sleep Focus Modes” mandatory? Please remove them.

i tried to report this via product support email and have gotten zero response which is unusual given my past experience with garmin support.

i'm a new Fenix 8 owner and have this problem the Map workaround Giannix suggested does not work for me. the only way to get touch working again is to reboot the watch.

i've given up on this for now and have to keep touch on at night which is a bummer because i can inadvertently touch the screen while in bed and the screen lights up.

Update April 9,2025:

Our engineers are aware of a potential concern that may cause the touchscreen to not respond after exiting sleep or nap mode. They are anticipating that this will be resolved with a software update release mid-May. In the mean time, if your touchscreen has stopped responding, you can temporarily resolve this by powercycling the watch.

Mid May is an awful long time to have to put up with such an annoying and persistent bug, it's been plaguing us for at least weeks, maybe a month or more at this point. Is a hotfix not an option?

I can currently work around the problem by simply taking the watch off and waiting for the display to switch off. Then the touch screen works again. That way I don't have to reboot.

Interesting! Unfortunately, it cannot work for me as I use Always On Display.

I also use AOD but when I put the watch off my wrist the display goes off automatically to save battery.
