Questions about new Fenix 8

Finally, after waiting almost 3 weeks, my F8 is on the way.  I have the Epix 2 non-pro and it's been great.  I don't dive and the voice commands on F8 are laggy/slow from reports.  I can probably use the buttons faster.  But my Epix 2 doesn't have flashlight and that's the main (crazy) reason I got it.  Of course I have the Instinct 2X with a perfectly great flashlight.  Ahh, misguided financial decisions.  I did get a $218 discount with my Blue Cross health insurance.  So thats something.  Then plan to sell my Epix 2 after I'm sure I'll keep the F8.  I don't think I'll even try and use ECG as I don't want to permanently use MFA on my connect account.  My plan is update to the latest firmware first and then do a hard reset on the watch and then do the normal setup

A few things:

1. I've been told by Garmin support (yesterday) that I can use a backup of my Epix to the new F8.  Anyone have luck with this without issues?  Bring credit cards over to garmin pay?   I'd love to just bring over my activities w/ custom data screens and nothing else.

2. For anyone with Epix 2 non-pro, have you found F8 in multiband has more 'accurate' tracks?

3. As with many, I hate the stock F8 watch faces.  There is an Epix 2 Pro watch face just added with firmware, but I hate how Garmin support confirmed that I can't remove leading zeroes for time.  So if it's 9AM, it shows as 09:00AM,  Can anyone recommend digital Epix 2 like watch faces on ICQ store that doesn't tank battery life and is responsive?

4. For those wth the F8 AMOLED, have your initial problems if you got it right after release, been fixed with current firmware updates?

  • simply to bag Garmin

If there was nothing to complain about, nobody would come here simply to bag Garmin. And if ppl who complain weren't fans of Garmin in some way or another, they wouldn't bother posting about Garmin at all. The fact that they bother to complain at all is a sign that they care about Garmin products, and they want these products to be better.

Using the Connect IQ developer forums as an example, many new devs start out very idealistic, enthusiastic and optimistic, as did I. After a few weeks, months, and years of repeated exposure to problems, they eventually become bitter and cynical. Of course they will regularly post about problems, as many problems go unsolved for years (and new problems are continuously appearing).

I feel the same way about Garmin devices.

Some people go hard in the other direction and simply reflexively dismiss all complaints, regardless of merit. Tbh, this kind of behavior is a lot harder for me to understand than any kind of incessant complaining. Garmin isn't gonna go bankrupt just bc ppl complain about them here (or anywhere else). Garmin isn't a cool brand that anyone gets social status (real or imaginary) by identifying with it. In most circles, you would actually get negative social status by wearing a Garmin, imo.

  • Check out garmin.watchfacebuilder.com for many free downloadable faces. Much better selection than IQC. I did this and then paid for a developer subscription to create my own. It’s taking a while to learn the language but definitely worth it for me.

I agree with a few things that you say, but there are sooooooooooooooooooooo many people on this forum that just complain about every little thing, and make it into a much bigger thing than it is, and then ignore any help offered.

The dimness of the display is one example. People were cursing garmin up and down over that. I created a thread with a picture of my watch in total darkness to show that it was not as dim as some were making it out to be. Not one person responded to that post, but shortly after, all the garmin cursing stopped about the dimness issue.

I created another thread with steps to help people narrow down their battery issues, and asked that no one post negative comments in it. Well the first post was a negative comment, and after I thanked the person for ruining my thread, the thread got closed. And, out of all the people cursing garmin about the battery issue, only one person mentioned my post in their troubleshooting.

People want to hook up all these 3rd party sensors, apps, and stuff to their device, drain the crap out of their battery, and curse garmin for it.

Every new product has months of issues, and I'm sure garmin is working on them.

  • Yeah this is the best approach.  I work in IT and so carrying over settings from one OS (epix) to a new OS (F8) can go poorly and cause issues. But at a minimum,  it would be great if my custom activities with data pages came over.  Oh well.  I have a lot of homework today!

  • Zainstalowałem Twoja tarczę która wymaga klucza. Gdzie mogę go kupić?

  • Try it, if you don't like the way it works out, reset the watch.
