Received an email from Garmin saying that software update V.11.89 fixed this issue but I still need to use my phones light to make the display bright.
Any luck with this anyone?

Hello,
I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with the display brightness. I would love to help investigate this further. For this, I will need to collect some specific details. I will reach out to…
latest version has support for a Low Brightness Widget Glance
This will not effect the brightness of the watch in low light. This is not going to impact any visual part the display for…
I low light conditions the watch face is unable to increase the brightness and the watch is unreadable, brightness is not increased unless you put the watch face in front of a direct source of light.
Same here with a Garmin Fenix 8 amoled 47mm and I updated to the last software version. The problem remains the same
I am very frustrated with my Fenix 8, never thought that a flagship would damage so much the experience of so many years I had with Garmin. The two main reasons why I bought it were the speaker phone and…
Nope, it was not fixed and Garmin is now playing games with their customers. This is their flagship device and it is pretty much unusable in half the time because of this autodim problem. I think it's time we all go to social media and let everyone know Garmin is selling a defective product and is playing coy with dealing with it. Only by threatening their reputation will they actually act.
I am very frustrated with my Fenix 8, never thought that a flagship would damage so much the experience of so many years I had with Garmin. The two main reasons why I bought it were the speaker phone and the improved visibility for my old eyes and those are precisely the main problems I have with the watch. I asked for direct help and they asked me to send videos of the problems of the watch but unless I pay for a studio to record the problem the videos won't show in detail the problems I have.
Sorry you’re having these issues. I’m still on the fence regarding AMOLED and MIPS. Can you describe in detail what the issue is?
I low light conditions the watch face is unable to increase the brightness and the watch is unreadable, brightness is not increased unless you put the watch face in front of a direct source of light.
Does the display wash out in Red Shift mode as well?
I have the AMOLED 51mm. I tested in my bathroom with the door closed and the light out (so no light at all), and it's a little dim but perfectly fine to me. In a dimly lit room or outside at night time, it's perfectly fine to me. I'm old and need reading glasses for just about everything these days too.
People on this forum seem to blow every little thing way out of proportion, so knowing if there is even an actual problem with something is difficult.
Can you do the same test with Red Shift?
Just did it, and it's about the same to me. A little dim in pitch dark, but seems fine in low light.
If you get it from a place that has a return policy, you can always return it if it's too dim for you.
I've just bought my Fenix 8. The old version of the software it came with was good, no issues. Updated to V11.90 this evening and immediately noticed random issues with brightness. The brightness dims and brightens on it's own. £1100 for a watch . . . and this is an Update? I loved it straight out of the box but by day 4 I'm considering returning it. Pretty disappointing. I'm happy to send video or pics of the issue taken with my $600 iPhone that actually works as it should. ;)
I have the same issue. Using my indoor rowing machine, the display is unreadable dim in low light conditions. Would be interested in any fix.
