When will Garmin officially address the battery drain problem on Fenix 8?

Garmin - Ive been a customer of yours for close to 7 years. Why aren't you publicly addressing the battery drain problems with the Fenix 8? I expect more transparency from a company such as yours. You've built a reputation over decades for stable products but can all be lost with a bad release.

  • At the end of the day, every company has its highs and lows. Maybe they’re going through a low point right now. Unfortunately, their competitors are stepping up, and this slump could cost them a lot of loyal customers.

Take Suunto, for example - they were known for their rock-solid Ambit series but lost some of that spark when they experimented with new designs. Now, with the Vertical and Race/Race S series, it feels like they’re making a strong comeback.

  • True - couldn't have said it better.

I think the question is... when will garmin users officially stop creating these battery drain posts?

Every forum on every device, there are battery drain post after battery drain post. And on... and on... and on.

I have been using garmins for 10 years now, and never really had any major battery issues, except for 1 that turned out to be a defective device, which they replaced for me. There may have been a few over the years that where legit, and garmin fixed, but most are not.

People install all these extravagant watch faces that drain their battery, and want to blame garmin. Peopl install these battery monitoring apps, that drain their batteries, and want to blame garmin. People are monitoring every percent of battery usage, contantly checking and using the backlight and AOD, and draining their batteries, and want to blame garmin.

Oh look... it drained 1 percent in 15 minutes... yeah... that's because you are constantly checking it and turning the backlight or AOD on every 2 seconds to check it. Stop doing that.

I have a fenix 8 51mm AMOLED, and am getting good battery life. I use the stock watch face, I don't install beta software, and I don't install 3rd party apps. And, I don't constantly check every percent of battery drainage.

  • Just because you don't have the problem, that doesn't mean it is not happening... bad take.

  • Why put everyone down? Like we all have fantastic battery life but complain just to annoy you.
I have both F8  51mm AMOLED and MIP.
on AMOLED I have stellar battery life 16+ days with AOD while they advertise 13 days. While on MiP I get 14-16 days while advertised is more than 30.
    how is that possible?

  • I get consistently 14 days with AOD off, 4 to 5 days of 1-2 hours workouts, and a weekend golf.  I also track sleep with pulseOX on during sleeping hours.  Mine is 47mm AMOLED.

  • I'm on 64 percent today, charged last Friday, aod off pulse ox on at night, had 2 rounds of golf at weekend and I did a bit of messing around with settings the other night so it's not to bad for a week.

  • The worst part is that the results are so inconsistent among users.

Some people get only a few days of battery life (with their watch doing almost nothing), whereas others many more days (for example, I consistently get 14 days with at least 4 hours of GPS activities outdoors per week, 47mm AMOLED, no AoD, no PulseOx, 3rd-party watchfaces, no special "tuning" for battery life).

It seems to be either software-related or perhaps there are different batches of hardware, some experiencing the battery drain problem.

  • I received a watch replacement from support, but the issue persists. Only after I use my Bluethood external HR monitor does it occur. Nevertheless, Garmin should formally acknowledge that they are aware of the issue and that they are addressing it.

  • I manually disconnect my HRM Pro after using it. If it is wet the HRM will try and connect to watch as it thinks you are using it.
