Why doesn't the palm over screen feature turn backlight off?

Hello, I have a Fenix 8 Solar, and I really enjoy the palm over screen feature. Whenever I do it, it returns me to my home screen, but the backlight stays on. In order for me to have it off I basically have to put my palm over the screen again, in order for it to turn the backlight off. If I understand this feature correctly, it should turn the backlight off the first I put my palm over the screen, not just return to the home screen.

Any info, or suggestions about changing something in the settings are appreciated.

The behavior is pretty dumb in my opinion.

You can put a palm over the screen to turn off the backlight only when you have pressed the light button. If you tapped the watch screen with your finger however, after lights up then you put your hand over it, backlight will NOT go out.

Also I have touch lock on and every time I shower its a backlight festival.

Maybe I'm not understanding the issue? If I press upper left or tap the screen, if I palm it, it goes off in both situations.
